Is this medical negligence?

Two years ago I had a stroke. I was 29 years old at the time and it happened on Christmas Day. My parents rushed to call the ambulance and they said they would be 45 minutes. They then took me in the car which took around 15 minutes. Once I got to the hospital I wasn’t triaged by a nurse until 15 minutes later (I was gasping for air, really struggling to breathe). They then triaged me and put me into a room and I waited 45 minutes until a doctor came to see me. My sister asked the doctor what he thought had happened and he said maybe a panic attack. I asked him was it a stroke and he laughed at me and said not at this age, it’s not possible. Was sent home and had double vision so was back in hospital, had MRI and it was confirmed I had a stroke. Ever since i have ended up with brain fog and cognitive issues where I struggle to communicate properly. It was later discovered through a scan I have a hole In my heart, went through surgery and they couldn’t locate it. Since then I have still been waiting for treatment and not on any blood thinners. I’m scared I’ll have another stroke

Yes it is medical negligence and they also medically gaslit you! Which is a huge problem for women and afab people! They didn’t take your concerns seriously! I would be pissed! They always just say oh it’s just anxiety or a panic attack when it’s not!!

100% negligence, I went to the drs as I could feel a huge hard lump in my stomach, the first male dr I saw just said I was anxious.. I got a second opinion this time the dr was a woman and she diagnosed me w gallstones etc. They gaslit you, and used the whole it’s probs just a panic attack or anxiety as a lot of drs don’t take women’s concerns seriously.

Why wait 2 years to do anything about it, though? If you thought it was medical negligence, you should have done something about it at the time.

@Rachel sorry what do you mean

@Liv that’s horrible! It’s easy for them to put it down as anxiety for women. Glad you were taken seriously by the female dr

Well, it happened 2 years ago, you said, so why have you waited 2 years to say that it was medical negligence? You should have called it out when it was done to you 2 years ago.

Honestly I’ve got so many other incidents like that, women are usually labelled hormonal or crazy - hope you’re okay x

@Rachel I did contact pals a few times nothing was done. And recently I had to sit my PhD exam and complete my research which I struggled to complete because of cognitive issues. I only just realised how much of an impact it has had on the way my brain functions.

Unfortunately not straightforward ‘negligence’ as in if you tried to get compensation you’d probably not win, but it is messed up. I also had a stroke (at 26) and had a very similar situation. Went to the emergency room and the nurse literally laughed when I said what I thought was happening. They took some blood and sat me on a gurney for a few hours. When they finally got around to checking the results my platelets were in the millions and then they rushed to do more tests. I’ve now been on blood thinners and some form of long term chemotherapy (3 different ones) for almost 8 years. Also had a bone marrow biopsy to rule out some things but it was inconclusive.

Also at the time it all happened (post stroke) for the full year I was very ill and could hardly function. And then I had my PFO procedure where they couldn’t locate the hole in my heart and so I require surgery once again. That is why it has taken this long for me to get around this. The recovery from the surgery took 3 months because I had a haemotoma. So yes I wasn’t in the best of health for the past 1.5 years to actually figure what is going on.

I just don't know if they will do anything about it now because it has been so long.

@Rachel all I want them to do is just do the surgery I need 😣

If I'm not wrong you have three years from when the incident happened or even you became aware of it x

my mom had a stroke at 30 lol that doctor is an idiot

I would at least file a complaint against the Dr and the hospital. I would also continue to post online about your experience and I would mention names. This is disgusting , if they would have listened to you and acted faster and gave you appropriate medical attention you would probably be in a much better place. A stroke isn’t something to mess with. I would go to a different hospital for treatment. You need a care team that takes you seriously.

@Rachel according to this if the impact has caused a mental disability (such as stroke) then there is no time limit. Otherwise its around 3 years. https://www.leighday.co.uk/faqs/medical-negligence-faqs/time-limits-on-medical-negligence-claims/?utm_term=medical%20negligence%20claims&utm_campaign=Search_Generic_MedNeg_Low+Priority+(UK)_EM_MN+-+(Experiment)&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=5187487421&hsa_cam=17887492698&hsa_grp=142427870151&hsa_ad=613623431944&hsa_src=g&hsa_tgt=kwd-97344557&hsa_kw=medical%20negligence%20claims&hsa_mt=p&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrZSW7JnaiwMVCpJQBh0zvAOuEAAYASACEgJ6TPD_BwE

@Sarah🦄 thank you so much for this, really appreciate it

@Rachel that's very positive of you ☺️ I'm sure she did many things .. unfortunately it takes ages to get a small operation, mine took 6 months just to get a hernia removed .. major surgerys take sometimes years ,NHS are under staffed and under so much pressure not everyone get seen straight away ,chances are shes waited alot longer than that ...my uncle waited 3 years for open heart surgery...sometimes you gotta be a bit more sensitive to others 🙏as sometimes how you say things can have a big impact on someone and can come across as a little rude..I'm sure she's done what she can for now ,have a little bit more heart 🫠

@Holly thank you appreciate you being understanding. My kids were 1 and 2 at the time it happened so yes it has been a very difficult couple of years for me and I am still living with so much mental stress just thinking about me having a recurring stroke and not being able to survive it/permanent disability. It’s all so difficult when you have little ones to think about. I just wish the doctors took me seriously
