Weaning at 4 months instead of 6 months

Hi, So, I took my baby to the health visitor feeling like she was ready for weaning. She's having 7oz every 1.5 hours, very unsettled and showing interest in my food. She literally stares at me whilst I eat opening and closing her mouth like a fish. She's 4 months old and the health visitor agreed that she would benefit from weaning but as its not recommended until 6 months. Didn't give me much advice. Same with the GP. What would you do? Where do I even begin with weaning?

You can get purée pouches from 4 months and you can start adding mushed banana to her milk, also baby porridge and baby rice are good to start weaning, if you want to go down the baby led weaning save that till she’s 6 months and maybe stick to purée food this early on

There’s only factors to consider before weaning. She needs to be able to sit up unaided, hold her head steady & be able to actually put hand to mouth to ‘eat’ food. I personally wouldn’t rush into weaning x

It’s obviously up to you but the reason it isn’t recommended is because her digestive system isn’t mature enough to digest food and it’s been proven that it can lead to gut issues later on in life. She also needs to be showing signs of readiness like sitting in a highchair for an extended period of time without flopping forward and not having the tongue thrust reflex to decrease the risk of choking. Again, it’s up to you but I’d do your research before going into it 🙂

I wouldn’t say the things you’ve mentioned are signs she’s ready. She could be going through a growth spurt causing the frequent feeds. Babies are also naturally curious, she would watch and copy you doing anything.
