You have to ask yourself why you want to go private and if that is worth the price. If you have a low risk pregnancy you would be better off going for midwife led care and spend the money on your baby later, lots of people don’t even get a private room in the end because it’s first come first serve and priority is given to patients who have a medical need for a private room
Just to add, if you are a private patient, your baby will also be a private patient so if they need any unexpected care after the birth (Nicu etc), you’d have to cover that, too
I wondered the same and found semi private to be better value for money and as said above you're not even guaranteed a private room. There was a woman in a bed beside me (semi private ward) who was private!
I am going the Rotunda Private and the fees for my Consultant are 3,500. All consultants have different prices. Depending on your insurance policy they may give you a certain amount back. My policy gave me 750 back and then you can claim the 20% tax relief back with revenue. Private is consultant led and I get scans at every apt - every 4-6 weeks at the start, reduced down to 2/3 weeks towards the end. I have only been to my GP at 25 & 35 weeks and only met a midwife once at my 12 week appointment. The Consultant will be present for the birth and if your insurance policy covers it you can choose to have a private room - depending on the availability of it. I’ve had a good experience and the scans at every visit are reassuring. Semi private is the in between option and cheaper - maybe half the price. I think you are under a consultant with that but may see a different one each time (I could be wrong tho). I’m sure the Coombe is pretty similar.
