Episiotomy help

This is probably TMI but I am 6 weeks postpartum and I had an episiotomy which opened up on day 5. It was left to heal naturally on its own. Today for some reason I got the worst diarrhoea ever and I am absolutely 100% sure it got in my episiotomy. I don’t know what to do. Will I get an infection?

Hey im so sorry this happened - i had an episiotomy - a can you have a good shower / bath - just to make sure you’re totally clean around there

The same happened to me. At my midwife check up, she said it had opened and saw raw skin/flesh. She told me to sit with my legs together as much as I could and when walking taking smaller strides so the skin fuses back together. In terms of cleaning, so told me when I showered or bathed, to wash the area with clean water, and the use separate kitchen roll to pat dry the area. She told not to bother with towels as you'd be forever needing to wash it as it needed to be clean each time it was used on the area, so suggested Kitchen Roll. I did have a bad stomach for about a week or so, but I was also anemic after birth and was taking Iron tablets. But stopped taking them Everything seems to be fine now. I do still get a little bit of bleeding. I'm 4 weeks Postpartum I would say if your worried about it get booked in to have it checked over with GP or a nurse

I echo what the others have said, but I'd also like to add that when you have your checks. (Is it 8 weeks or 12 weeks??? I can't remember) please speak up if you have even any discomfort from your scar. I didn't say anything cos I thought it was still healing but actually I am almost 3 years pp now and it's actually still really sore sometimes!

this happened to me when mine opened up and I used a perineal bottle to wash the area after going to the loo each time! X

Thank you girls! I am just terrified it’s going to get infected from my bad belly! I cleaned it out straight away with a peri bottle but I’m just terrified I’m going to get sepsis.
