(UK) Supply Teaching Assistant advice

I've just got a job as a supply TA as I like the flexibility & can be with my baby more. I live in a small village, and I'm surrounded by other small villages so I'm worried about not getting any work! I'm hoping to do 3 days a week so I can be home with my baby for 2 days and still pay the bills!! Is anyone else a supply TA here? If so, have you managed to get work regularly?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I’m a class teacher and school budgets are so over stretched TA hours have been reduced and if they are off sick supply is never booked. Have you considered tutoring instead?

I teach not too far away from you in North Warwickshire, and as Millie said I’m afraid I’ve never known us to have a supply TA. We’ve had a temporary position for a maternity leave, but that’s the closest we have had. You might be able to get a part time role instead?

Ahh okay thank you! The last school I worked at had loads of supply staff but they always had staff leaving or on MAT leave, that's probably why! I'll keep an eye out for permanent roles 🤞🏻 thanks ladies!

You would probably get more hours and potentially more money as a cover supervisor.

If you’re a qualified teacher it is worth reaching out to the schools directly as well as an agency as often smaller schools will work directly with local supply teachers, however small school supply teaching assistant work is very unlikely due to budgets I’m afraid. Most schools insure their teachers so if on sick the school gets the supply pay back, not many small schools do this for tas though

So I've had no work so far! I've gotten another job as a support worker, much more reliable! You were all right, not worth being a supply TA these days! Thanks all x
