@Becca Yeah he’s said a couple of words but they are only one offs only word I hear 1000 times a day is mum and every now and then he will call for his brother but if we say to him we’re is dad and other family members he will look at them but constantly trying and repeating words but he would rather play with his toys and run about im hoping within the next few months he just comes out with sentences and completely surprises us all x
It’s so hard because I can see the frustration when he’s trying to tell me something but can’t get the words out. He won’t copy after us at all will only repeat the words he knows he can say which again are single words. We used to get an “all done” or “where are you” when looking for someone but they have disappeared from his vocabulary. He does a bit of sign, and I think he’s a little stubborn and think he doesn’t have to repeat. HV just said when he’s around children his age more at nursery (he only goes 1.5 days) he should start to pick it up. But he’s been there 4 months now and it’s barely improved. Just want to know if there is a different way I need to approach trying to get him to speak xx
Same here with my twins! They will be 2 at the end of next month and they cannot speak. They would say a few animal sounds and a couple of random words but nothing consistent or clear. They are also hearing 3 different languages at home and learning Spanish and English 50/50 so I want to think they are a bit delayed because of that. HV told me a couple of months ago that there is not speech therapy through NHS until they are almost 3. We just need to keep trying and hopefully one day they won’t stop 😂. They also understand pretty much all the instructions I give them in Spanish and are able to identify all the body parts and all the colours. X
@Marta my HV said that they can refer them if they feel they need it at 2 years 6 months. She’s put a note on my file to get his review as close to that time as possible so she can refer straight away if he needs it x
@Becca have you had your 2 years old visit already? I haven’t but I will definitely mention it to them xx
@Marta no, she said that they usually get done between 2 years 3 months and 2 years 6 months. I called our HV to ask about his speech but said they can’t refer till 2 years 6 months xx
@Becca oh I thought it was around when they turn 2 🫨, the visit I mean.
@Marta me too. I asked when I’d get my letter and she said they don’t do them till at least 2 years 3 months. Which was news to me! Xx
I am glad you told me because I was actually expecting them soon 😂
Im in the same situation, he literally only says "car" or "there you go" when passing something to us. He use to say mum all the time then just stopped, he said thankyou once. It's like he knows but is stubborn 😂 he knows everything we are saying and what it means but doesnt want to really copy. my opinion I think boys are just so happy playing and doing their own thing 😂 cos people i know with girls seem to be right chatter boxes, my first born son was quite behind but he's 12 now and fine haha. I'm not too worried but it would be nice for him to be chatting more rather than just pointing and whinging at things 😂 x
In the same boat. Think we have a maximum of 15 words. But they aren’t consistent. Spoke to Health Visitor, who advised if he needs any speech therapy, they won’t be able to refer him until 2 1/2 years. We’re just working with him every day and trying to get new words out, but don’t feel like we’re getting very far. xx
