Hi all - baby is primarily on formula Reading and it makes it seem like a very secondary option but speaking with few medical professionals they say colostrum / few days are most important anyway to build antibodies and then doesn’t matter Can anyone share benefits / debunk health risks etc for formula ?

Legally formula companies and advertising can't recommend formula feeding as equal to or better then breast feeding because it's not and it probably won't ever be as the human body is weird and magical and can do things that formula companies just can't, however saying that formula has to be safe and provide almost the same value of nutrition that breast milk provides so your baby wont be missing out on anything important by having formula. Doctors can't say that formula is better for the same reasons. Colostrum can be really useful to help build antibodies and can help if they are ill or have rashes and stuff however again it is not 100% necessary for a good healthy life, babies can have just a good a life and be equally as healthy without it. Formula only comes with health risks if it isn't prepared properly or stored properly other then that it is perfectly safe to give to ur baby it legally has to be x

Colostrum isn't always useful tho, if ur baby ends up with a milk allergy or another common allergy such as wheat, Soy, nuts, peanuts, egg, amongst others all this is past through ur breast milk and Colostrum so if ur baby has an allergy to these things u won't be able to give Colostrum as it can cause an allergy and make them ill. There r a lot of women who harvested Colostrum for a while and putting in all the time and effort it can take to harvest it just for it to not be usable or safe to give to there babies. So there is positives and negatives to everything z

An easy way to think about it is that formula will give your child nutritionally what they need to survive. It won't have added benefits like immune support the way breast milk does, but it will support their growth in every way that is necessary. It also won't change as baby ages, so typically it's advised to finish formula feeding after a year. You can go on feeding breast milk as long as you want because it changes to support toddlers, whereas formula is developed and made for a very small window of time. At the end of the day your baby won't "suffer" on formula. They won't lose out on critical nutrition. For some moms who simply can't breastfeed, it's a saving grace, and for some who simply find the demands of breastfeeding too much or can't incorporate it into their lives, it's a relief. I can say that for me, while it may not be nutritionally comparable, it is complete, my daughter did fine on it and is growing and thriving, and it allowed me to be a much better mother to her, so I don't regret it.

No facts but MANY adults around you were formula fed and you can never guess who was and who wasn’t. Yes breast milk gives antibodies but formula is also safe for babies they just can’t say it’s better as it’s nothing will ever be better than the ultimate natural food source it’s like saying which is more natural an apple or a sandwich when one grows naturally but you wouldn’t die from eating a sandwich as it’s still food. Formula is perfectly safe and brand doesn’t matter either the more expensive does not = better. Every formula brand has to include certain things and be regulated and tested xx

The benefits is it feeds your baby and it’s safe it’s been around many years xx 😁🫶🏻
