Trimming Baby Nails

How often do you trim your baby's nails? I let my 4 (almost 5) month old's get too long, and he scratched up his nose pretty badly today. It made me so sad, so I'm nursing him to sleep, because that seems to be the only way I can trim his nails well. (I've been pumping/bottle feeding a lot lately.) How do you do it for your baby? Do you use an electric trimmer, or standard baby nail clippers?

You can buy scissors that are made specifically to cut a baby's nails. I'll attach a picture

I try to cut my 10 month old daughters nails once a week because they grow so fast that she either scratches herself or someone else now too haha. And it don't half hurt aswell! I did try the electric trimmer but it didn't do anything, was useless. I dunno if it was the brand or what, so I just got her the baby tommee tippee nail clippers ans they seem to be working just fine! 🙂

We trim 2-3x/week because his nails just grow so fast! They're honestly like little razors. We use the haakaa baby electric nail file and love it! Super gentle and he doesn't mind when we use it at all....the one time we tried clippers there was a total meltdown lol

Almost every day lol- omg don’t do the clippers… get the little dremmel style sander- for babies of course

I use the baby nail file every week otherwise they get out of control!

I do it every 2 weeks. I use the baby nail clippers then file down the sharp edges with the electric trimmers.

Probably the odd one out but I just used normal nail clippers since she was about 4 months old. Filed before that. Cut them when they need it which is usually once a week. She’s 11 months and used to it now so doesn’t bother. Toenails are a different story 🤣

Personally, I got an electric nail trimmer from my baby registry, and I've tried it on him. I have accidentally cut his skin once or twice with the clippers, but I guess maybe I just find it more satisfying or something.

Every two days cause they grow too quickly and she doesn't wear mittens ( it's summer and it's hot and she's putting her hands in her mouth a lot )

I should cut them way more regularly then I do. My daughter hates her hands being touched. So I trim them when she's asleep

I cut them once a week. She also had a big scratch on her nose from her nails once and it took about 3 weeks to fully disappear! When she was super little I would file her nails while she was having a contact nap. When she was around 6 months it was harder to do while she was sleeping so I switched to nail clippers. We did a lot of pram naps so when she was asleep I would trim her nails, always at the beginning of her nap when she was more deeply asleep. Eventually I had to use tv as a distraction and now she's 2 it's hit and miss whether she'll let me cut them.

I hold his fingers out and Hubby cuts w nail clippers. We don’t file

Twice a week 😩 her nails grow so fast!

2/3 times a week

I use clippers and a nail file. But our baby's nails still get sharp on the edges even a day after filling. I'm definitely considering the electric file moving forward.

The trick for us using the electric file is to have someone else distracting her, like dancing or being silly and it’s just enough time for me to give her a trim. If we’re on our own it’s impossible (she’s 8m)
