2/2 Also, with 2 children we would probably have to work even harder to be able to afford just above the basics (overtime or part-time job) which would leave us with minimal time to spend with the kids. We thought that would be unfair, as children need time with their parents as well, not just their housing and eating needs met. So we decided to give our all to LB instead and make sure he has what he needs, including family time and holidays. Sorry for the super long comments! That's how we thought about it, doesn't mean this works for everyone. ☺️
@Mantha I love the long comments :) We are in a similar boat, family lives hours away, we're not rich so one of use would need to do a part time on top of a full time, both our cars are over 200k miles so that will be a necessary evil in the next few years. I am really close with my sister and he has 3 brothers. Another child would be great but not feasible unless matters really change.
1/2 I would love another child, but we can just not afford it.... My sister is my best friend so I always wanted to have at least two children. However, after having our LB, we realise there is no way to do it. Mine and husband's families live abroad so we're all alone here, so no support in childcare etc. And nurseries are quite pricey in the UK. We can definitely not afford one of us to be unemployed, so for us to save some money on childcare we will both be doing condensed hours once LB starts nursery, so he will be going 3 days/week instead of 5. We talked about it a lot and since neither of us grew up in wealthy families, we decided that we will not have another child, but instead give our all to LB. Things we might not have had as children (music lessons, swimming lessons etc) he will be able to have if he wishes to.
