You shouldn't put anything in the cot with them. It's a suffocation risk. Sounds like he wants you close. Is the cot in his own room or yours?
You have to let him cry and leave the room. It sucks especially when they are so little but it is the only thing that worked for us with sleep training. My son bed shared from 5-14 months. Wasn't until I moved him into his own room that we both really got a good night sleep
So my son has a cot right next to my bed in the same room. I’ve tried multiple times at nights to put him down but then I’m hardly getting much sleep. I’ve let him cry a lot but he’s not having it!
I think I’m going to try putting a piece of my clothing. Let’s see what happens
@Sumaiya the more you comfort them the safer they feel. What type of cot is it? Can you have one side open to the bed so you could have a hand on him? Leaving them to cry just tells them that nobody is going to meet their needs so they stop wasting energy on crying.
His cot is attached to my bed with one side open I’ve tried patting him, shhhhing him and sometimes I leave my arm next to him so he can feel me.
My 7 month old has just gone into a cot he was in a next to me and he hates it I’ve tucked my T-shirt in on the mattress where his head lays what I’ve worn today and he’s gone down ok so far 🙈 I’ve probably jinxed it now 😅 xx
lol same my son lasted 2.5 hours in his new cot! @Hannah
@Sumaiya same here! Haha xx
@Sumaiya have you tried getting him to sleep in bed/on you then transferring at about 20 mins when in a deeper sleep? Feet down first then bum, head last.
Yes I let him sleep on me for about 20-30 mins put him down gently like you’ve mentioned and he wakes up most of the time @Natalie
@Sumaiya have you thought about something like a floor bed so he has more space?
So my husband changed his cot into a bigger one with a better mattress. My son is tiny so his new cot is more than big enough.
I suggest putting him to sleep for his naps and move him to his cot he problem will fuss about it but being consistent will help try making to cot feel like you in it with him take a shirt and put it next to him while he sleeps
