Flying with a car seat

What’s the best way to travel with a car seat. We’re off to Portugal and want to take our car seat, we are flying with Jet2 and not sure if it will be allowed to come on board as a carry-on

We have the WAYB Pico and it’s amazing. Not sure if it is internationally approved but it’s lightweight, folds up and fits in a backpack. Super easy to install on the plane and transfer to a taxi when you land. It is only toward facing so just keep that in mind but absolutely would recommend it.

We took a car seat with us for my LG with BA who allowed it to be checked in addition to luggage (as it was for the baby). Can you check Jet2's policy on baby items?

@Joanna how did you wrap it? Did you have it in a box?

We have a car seat bag from and use bubble wrap.

I just put it in a big storage bag that I bought on amazon. Didn't even think to bubble wrap as others suggested! 😅

we are taking the graco slimfit and are flying with Jet2. It will be checked in and we are purchasing it as a travel seat so will keep the box, stuff it with nappies and take it that way☺️ Jet2 allow you to take a car seat and pram, although they do advise it shouldn’t weigh over 10kg. Everyone has said they never weigh the items and i’m hoping since we will take the pram to the gate and have our baby in it when we arrive they won’t bother trying to weigh that item!

Car seats have to be checked in unless you are paying for an extra seat. Many airlines also will only let you take a pram onboard if you count it as your hand luggage

I never used a car seat for my 2-year-old. Instead, I use a baby flight hammock and the GB Pockit stroller, which fits in the overhead cabin. It makes airport transits so much easier!
