When she would cry, would you pick her back up if she didn't stop? Mine will hysterically cry and wake herself up and won't go back to sleep
Also EBF and also did some gentle sleep training, starting at nap times but it really helped during the nights too. I would set a timer for my little one to cry for 5 minutes, after that I would pick him up and give him lots of love then put him down and start the timer again. I actually found that most times he didn’t really need the full 5 minutes. Hope this helps x
@Jess I did the same as Sveva, I would leave for 3 mins comfort and then put down again. We started off doing this 4 times and then would rock her to sleep as it got a bit much for everyone. Within a few days we were seeing a difference and by 5 days she would do it on the second attempt and we're 1.5 weeks in and she puts herself to sleep
Thank you, I will try tomorrow xx
Also, consider not feeding as the last “thing” to do in a wake window. We tend to follow feed-play-sleep-repeat, and I try to feed about 30 minutes before his bedtime ☺️
How do I swap things around now as I feed at the end of her wake window 😫😫
@Jess Just try feeding her when she’s first wakes up! She’ll still get the same number of feeds. Then put her in her cot when it’s time for a nap and pat/shush/stroke/sing to help her drift off x
It's totally natural for them to fall asleep breastfeeding, we contact nap, rock her in a bouncer or I feed her to sleep and roll away x
I've tried to teach my little one to self soothe and it's been really successful at nap times. I stopped letting her fall asleep on the boob and put her down drowsy, we did need to let her cry for a couple of minutes at a time so she learnt but now I feed her and then hold her so she can suck her thumb and then she puts herself to sleep like that. We're still working on bedtime as she falls asleep quite quickly on the boob!
