And to the people that agree with this racist approach to healthcare….why. No opinion but factual information with no bias remarks
wait i’m confused why 25% of the people said yes? why?
Here to learn. Isn’t it true that different races have different health needs? Like we shouldn’t put everyone up against the same rubrics bc “normal/healthy” is not the same? For example during pregnancy/childbirth. Different races are at varying risks for different complications. We need more studies into the discrepancies to better provide individual care. What am I missing?
@Rosalie yes but no. different racial and ethnic groups can face different health needs, but it’s important to understand that these differences often arise from a mix of factors. Some conditions have higher prevalence in certain populations due to genetic factors. For example, sickle cell disease is more common in people of African descent (cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down) , while Ashkenazi Jewish populations have higher risks for certain genetic disorders like Tay-Sachs disease (disorder that destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord). I am black. I was born and raised in west Africa from black parents. I don’t have sickle cell disease. Yet we know that whites, Asians and Hispanics (while few in numbers) do have this. Let’s say there’s a vaccine for it…should not be giving black folks the same vaccine schedule? Because of my skin tone I apparently have a better immune system? So my vaccine schedule should be different? Hmmm
@Rosalie To add on, if I may: Socioeconomic status, access to quality healthcare, education, and living conditions significantly influence health outcomes. Historically marginalized communities may face barriers to healthcare that contribute to disparities. Why? Go do some research on “Tuskegee Syphilis Study”. Or the general notion that’s been held for generations that black women and men’s level of physical paint isn’t the same as whites. Because of this many black women experience gut wrenching pain during labor and because we are different they thought we didn’t need pain meds. We are just playing game and pretending to experience being sliced open.
@S. annalese Wait but why would you want a hypothetical vax that doesn’t apply to you? I guess that’s the part I’m confused about 🫶🏼 It sounds like individuals should be able to determine their own health plans with their provider, rather than just giving everyone the same plan? *Especially* if there’s different risks for us based on our racial profile. I’m Hispanic. I don’t want the standard used for white people to be applied blindly to me. I actually experienced this regarding fertility struggles. The normal range for certain hormones for Hispanics is different than for other races. My original Dr told me I was fine, my specialist years later explained that I technically was not (both were white). She was able to actually make progress bc she racially profiled my care, and now I have two daughters. Tbh that’s what I understood RFK to be saying when I first heard this! 🤷🏻♀️
@Rosalie Cultural beliefs and practices can influence diet, lifestyle, and approaches to healthcare. These can affect the prevalence of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. And our bodies respond to vaccines different based on these factors. When your bigger/ thiccc/ fat/ ect…obesity is correlated with poor vaccine-induced immune responses in humans. Not all blacks are fat. Not all whites are fat. But again, this man is attempting to group one race together when it comes to vaccines. Different communities might be exposed to varying environmental factors (e.g., pollution, occupational hazards) that affect health..
@Rosalie while biological differences can play a role in certain health conditions, many of the observed disparities among different racial and ethnic groups are driven by social, economic, and environmental factors. Addressing these differences requires a comprehensive approach that includes improving access to care, addressing socioeconomic inequalities, and culturally tailored health interventions. So to make a blast statement about one race when it’s clear that not kk blacks live the same is crazy. Same for whites, Asians and other groups. You can’t lump on group together and not tell me how stupid and frankly racist to just think “ahh this groups has better immune system so….we will do things different for them”. And in his eyes different would mean less access. *sorry I have been TYPING 😂 and please don’t think I’m coming for you. I’m just expressing and explaining
@Rosalie When your white baby is getting the general vaccination schedule for MMR (protecting people against measles, mumps, and rubella)…should my black baby have it any differently than yours because someone with no medical knowledge thinks my child “has a better immune system” than yours ( a white child)? Because without knowledge my child’s immune system could be way worse than your child’s but it doesn’t matter because my black child (by default and wild assumption) as RFK thinks has a better immune system than yours just because he/she is black. If this was more so about age, I would understand. Because In some cases, children and adults need different quantities of a vaccine because our immune system weakens with age. Sorry that was a LONG rant. I hope I was able to kind of respond to your question. If not—sorry. I can’t keep typing. I typed a lot.
