Hospital experiences

I’ve just moved to Ossett and I need to decide what hospital I want to have my baby in, can anyone tell me about their experiences with the local hospitals? LGI, st James etc? Ive heard mainly good things but there’s a recent article which is worrying me a little bit about baby mortality x

Don’t worry about that article. The cases specifically mentioned are sad and I’m sorry for the parents of course but the numbers in the article are a misrepresentation for many reasons. Leeds is safe for mothers and its most recent CQC rating of maternity services has been good. I have had a baby at LGI and St James and would choose St James as my personal preference. Ultimately I didn’t find much difference in the care (good at both places) but the access to St James is better, parking so much easier, more facilities and a nicer environment in my opinion.

This will give you more information on the context of that article: https://www.leedsth.nhs.uk/news/information-for-patients-about-our-maternity-and-neonatal-services/

Agree with St James' in terms of parking, I opted for LGI, and getting parked up and to appointments is a nightmare! Dread to think what it will be like if I'm in labour!

Hi, I have had a baby at both hospitals, like said above parking is sooooo much easier at St James's but my experience of labour and aftercare was amazing in both places. If I was to choose again I think I would choose the LGI purely because it was such a wonderful experience, my first labour was more difficult and during COVID so tough to compare fairly! In terms of the reports online, they are extremely bias not taking away from the awful things that those families have been through. I ended up at the LGI this time because St James's was full. The LGI is also the children's hospital god forbid baby needs any further support xx

I had my baby in pinderfields and absolutely loved it, everyone has a different experience and I know some people who dislike pinders but if I have another baby I would choose to go there again even though I've now moved to Leeds xx

I had my baby at lgi 5 weeks ago and had an amazing experience, I had the most loveliest midwives and couldn’t of asked for better xx

I had an absolutely awful experience at St.James. We picked it solely for the ease of parking, and I wish we never did. Everyone barring one person that I've spoken to that delivered at St.James have said the same thing, too. It was during Lockdown though which is possibly why it was so awful. I wasn't listened to, though, and it did cause complications during labour.

LGI for both of my births both a natural delivery in the lotus suite which is amazing and then a c section for my second. Can’t fault staff. Did find one doctor very pushy for induction when I didn’t want it but as long as you know what you want don’t be forced into anything! Xx
