Probiotics

So I’m considering starting to give my almost 2 year old Mary Ruth’s probiotics. Sometimes she seems to struggle with pooping or will go every other day. Did probiotics help your toddler when taking them?

Probiotics are a life saver! Also the brand bioray has a thing for helping little go poo. It’s all natural and amazing!

Probiotics are great for health in general, but plain old fiber might help you out more with this specific problem. There needs to be enough material there to keep things moving, you know?

Sometimes, there are specific strains missing from a probiotic that could help. We have switched brands multiple times to find the right fit (Mary Ruth was not a fit for us). We ended up using SFI Labs children's chewable as it is 25 billion CFU, and the other brands we had tried were much less. https://us.sfihealth.com/k-tcc-ther-biotic-childrens-chewable-tm

Yogurt would help and has natural probiotics in it. He has half a pouch morning and finishes the pouch after dinner and that keeps his poops soft and regular for years. (A big reusable 250ml pouch, Bubstar brand- I buy tubs of yogurt and refill them into pouches) Me too, actually. I have a bowl of yogurt for lunch every day to break my fast, but mine I add muesli and and berries. I’m regular too 😉 can’t remember the last time I was constipated

My daughter took biogaia drops for the first year and it seemed to help. She now has to take a laxative in her milk every day to keep her regular tho. She's got a kidney problem that puts her at a higher risk of infection and constipation increases that risk so she'll be taking the laxative until potty training days

@Kellie what brand yogurt do you use?

We do give probiotics but not for this reason, just as a general gut health help. I think in your situation I would want to try and make sure she is having enough fruit/veg and water, and increase her fiber intake in general. Not saying don't give the probiotics, it's great, just that there's more than 1 answer to this issue.

@Amandine she’s a great eater! Loves her veggies and fruits. I’m trying to find more fiber rich foods for her as well, we have these granola bars she likes that are packed with fiber

Yes, but we opt to consume fermented food & drinks regularly instead of buying probiotics. My boys love sauerkraut, pickled veggies (carrots, beets, cucumbers, onions), kombucha, ginger bug, & yogurt.
