I'm in a SEND school, and these are my main ones: - Lunch time duties in the classroom (if needed) - All lessons to have a HLTA - Access to the medical room at all times - All tutor times to have a HLTA - Regular check ins with SLT due to being high risk, I also give them ample warning for appointments for cover - No heavy lifting - No PE - A working radio to contact staff - Perinatal therapy Basically.. I'm not allowed to be alone in the classroom, just in case 🙂
Strangest one on mine was I wasn’t allowed to go up or down the three steps on the way to the dining hall and had to use the very slow disabled lift - I didn’t follow that one.
I teach primary and am based in the early years dept, mine included: -No lunch duty -Isolation if child developed high temperature or other signs of sickness (we had a couple of cases of slapped cheek last year so we were all very paranoid about a repeat of this)-either I would cover in another class or child would be sent to designated 'sick area' with another staff member; in addition, if a child had an upset tummy another staff member to change them just in case it was infectious-I also stayed up to date with vaccinations to offer an addition layer of protection. Thankfully we had no serious outbreaks of anything in our year group, so didn't really have to implement this one! -Regular breaks, especially for the loo! -No heavy lifting or high stretching -Regular check ins with SLT to review Thankfully I didn't have to use many of these (officially started my maternity leave yesterday🥳) but SLT were supportive and I felt they had my back.
I’m secondary, and 6 weeks PP, but my RA included: - No break duties on the playground/later on none at all - individual RA for any trips/extra activities - a walkie-talkie to contact reception if I needed an immediate toilet break - allowed to teach sitting down - no students with a history of violence in my lessons - no line ups (if that’s a thing for you) - based in one room as much as possible/one floor - no unexpected cover unless absolutely critical to the functioning of the school
I’m Secondary Science in a lab & the most useful for me was a specially adapted chair which supported my back whilst being high enough for the raised tables 😌 Also: - A fan for my classroom, - No duties in crowded areas, - Access to water fountain outside my classroom, - Colleagues picking up book boxes for me, opening windows etc, - Gloves during practicals, - Sitting down to teach if need be & - Neighbour teachers being alert if I need the loo or be sick, just need to shout down the corridor for someone to cover my lesson 😂
I had one risk assessment, where she changed someone else’s name to mine. She did it when I was 16 weeks, I told her when I was 8. Shocking right?
Stuff about going for a wee. No trips - unless you’re comfortable. I wonder about PE too - do you have a coach that teaches? Being able to sit down whilst teaching.
I didn’t know I would be getting another risk assessment review but it makes sense…. I’m a bit concerned that mine is very vague currently and I’m now getting closer to third trimester. I work in year 6 and don’t have classroom support!!!
I’m also interested in this, I have my second risk assessment meeting coming up and currently 29 weeks. I’d like to ask to be taken off 30 minute duties and also I am expected to work once a week until 6pm as part of SLT and with arriving at 7am I am finding this unmanageable. So hard to not feel guilty though!!
