Breastfeeding help please!

Hi all, My baby is 2 days old and is not really taking from my boob. We have given her donor milk and she has had some colostrum from my boob but now we are leaving the hospital, the midwives say that as breast feeding is not established we will have to give her formula. Has anyone been in this situation, and what have you done? I'm desperate to breastfeed and avoid formula.

Hiiii. Yes I had the same issue, I wasn’t able to breastfeed at the beginning - keep trying and try different positions that are comfortable for both you and the baby so that baby can take from your boob. If it doesn’t work out you can exclusively pump too - hope it all works out 🩷

I had a similar situation recently and at the Princess Ann I was referred to their infant feeding team, they were so so helpful in giving me advice - turned out my little one had a tongue tie that got cut on day 6 and they supported putting a feeding plan in place, lending me a pump and introducing nipple shields to help with the latch. If you can I’d try speaking with them or a local lactation consultant, there are lots of local breastfeeding groups I can share if needed.
