Elective section

So this has been crossing my mind a lot recently because I’m in a lot of pain with pelvic girdle and just wanted to see if that could be an option when you’re a first time mum?? Can you have vaginal birth after? We would like kids quite close together so that’s another thing I need to think about 😅😩

I've been really struggling with PGP/SPD - I've had 2 previous trauma injuries to my tailbone which has been making it worse and I'm very worried about how I will cope with this during a vaginal birth. Particularly as I can't currently stand, walk, or even sit without it hurting... So I'm considering an elective for my first. I've been having consultant appts because of 2 other risk factors and its very much up to me but I'm really struggling to decide !!!!

@Rosie I didn’t think about it before but my midwife thinks I have SPD so I might mention to her on my next appointment about a c section. I’m struggling so much. It’s so hard to walk the dogs and once I’ve done that I’m out for the count 😅 I wanna clean the house so much but I’m just in so much pain now

You can opt for a section as a first time mum, it’s your birth and you’re entitled to birth your baby how you want! Many many mums also have VBACs afterwards, however I do think that it’s taken into consideration how close together you got pregnant with a second. I had a section first time round in June 2023 and am due again in 4 weeks. I found out I was pregnant when my daughter was 13 months old. My consultant said there was no reason I couldn’t have a VBAC if I wanted to. I’m opting for another section due to personal choice however. When I was having my first, they said in the delivery room wait 12-18 months before birthing again, and that was after an emergency section after which I was quite poorly so!

@Bec I’m really worried of the recovery after a section but I am in so much pain and I would just rather have him out quicker 😅 but then I’m 36+2 now and I’m not seeing a midwife till 38+1 so think I’ve left it a bit too late 😅

@Dominika I’ll be honest, I struggled with my section recovery however as I mentioned mine was an emergency and I was ill afterwards - I know of lots of people who recovered much quicker than I did. Despite the recovery being hard last time, I’m still going for an elective this time so you know! 🤣 if you’re wanting to discuss it with a midwife but don’t have an appointment I’d give them a ring and see if you can get in before your next appt to speak to someone about it!

You can deffo opt for an elective c section if you want one but I would say if you feel at some point you want a vaginal birth or babies close together I wouldn’t opt for the section because VBAC’s can be risky and not always successful. I’m hoping to have one in a few weeks 😅
