I have just had my 36 week scan And the baby is showing one of her kidneys is bigger then the other And over the normal threshold of 7mm It's 8.2mm I'm so worried And it's Friday and I can't speak to the consultant until Monday Has anyone had this?

Possibly… is it renal pelvic dilation? Are they actually worried about the size of baby’s kidneys or that urine might not drain properly because of some swelling? If so there’s a whole group dedicated to it: https://www.peanut-app.io/share/s0SmVNahyRb My last little boy had it and they forced me into an early induction that I didn’t end up needing. The urologist who saw my baby once he was born was so annoyed I’d been cornered into an induction over it that she supported me in reporting the consultant. But yeah on a scan about the same time it was picked up and from then on they were just insistent that he needed to be delivered early. And for WEEKS of his life they made me give him prophylactic antibiotics to avoid infection which was just stupid cos he was and still is fine 🤷🏻‍♀️ If it’s the same thing and you need an ear, I’m here xx

Mine flagged as having one large kidney at their 20 week scan. We’ve had regular growth scans since and have just had our 36 week, in which it was 8.6mm and they’ve signed her off as being okay and under 10mm, which is when they said they’d worry :)

If it’s renal pelvic dilation rather than the actual kidney being enlarged then my son had this - Hydronephrosis. My son was born and taken straight to nicu for a catheter to be inserted and spent a week there until a scan ruled out no blockage and we went home with antibiotics while he had further scans. Happy to chat if you want to message me.

I was told this yesterday and given a leaflet to read! My sons is measuring 10.5mm at 35 weeks. I'm also really scared and left in the dark a little x

@Gemma I spoke to a couple of different midwife's and I feel a bit better about it, I'm getting a rescan next week and supposedly the baby will just need to have antibiotics for a few weeks once born and an ultrasound. Unless the dilation is quite severe which then you may be induced early But I have no idea about what numbers are classed as severe Wishing you the best of luck, xxxxxx
