Opinions on play pens ?

My 7 month old has recently started to crawl and he is into everything already ! I’m torn on whether or not to get a play pen or if I should just be teaching him and encouraging him what not to touch. We only have a very small open plan downstairs area and if we add a playpen too then I worry there won’t be enough room for him to crawl around in? Any opinions if they are good, needed or worth it?

I use a playpen when I’m downstairs cooking or straightening up. Mine is 50x50 inch and he can crawl around somewhat. If you’re not interested in wearing your baby around then I say it’s good, needed and worth it. It provides a stress free place for your baby to be. I don’t use it for long periods of times like I said when I really need to get something done and can’t really keep an eye on him.

I personally don’t like play pens I think they restrict the child and it means then they don’t learn climbing crawling and exploring. I just baby proofed the living room added baby gates out the room etc. It’s each to their own but if your house is already small it’s just going to be so annoying for you x

I personally was 100 percent against it. However, when she started moving and spent a good half hour three times a day bc she got into the tubberware drawer a playpen was actually perfect for when I need to clean. And she plays perfectly good in it ! I have a pretty big one in my living room that she can crawl around in and play.

I never used one for 3 kids I removed the coffee table laid out a foam rug and just put cords and glass vases away, he rolled and crawled anywhere he wanted to the whole house was his. He learnt not to touch stuff he shouldn’t be. Like the Xmas tree I never zoned off he just learnt not to touch it. The hot oven he learnt over time not to touch it as I repeated 100 times it was hot. When I’m cooking he’s usually in his high chair having a snack anyway
