Breastfeeding or formula.

Baby boy is 9 months, got 8 teeth that sometimes make it painful. He's been waking 2-4 times in a night. Not sure weather to try to change to formula yo see if this will help his sleeping (I know no proof of that). He doesn't always seem happy or full after a feed. Been offering solids but he's not been taking much that easily.

I know they say formula doesn’t make a difference in sleep, but we started giving a bottle mix of breastmilk and formula before bed. And we got down to 1 nightly wake up… and last night he did 11.5 hours without waking/feeding. We also started solids so that may have helped but I think the formula definitely contributed too. I can’t comment on the happy or full after a feed. I know I have to offer at least two nursing sessions now per wake window since he’s awake for so long. Maybe he just needs more daily calories overall? Do you nurse on a schedule or on demand?

Formula fed babies still wake the same through the night and it's totally normal to still have wakes. It's rough, but absolutely a variation of normal.

Normal to not seem happy after a feed. Often when he is wriggly, I put back on the boobs few times until he is more content (works often, but not always). Other times when it seems he doesn’t want to feed, I’ll leave it and offer again later. If weight percentile is fine, he should be fine and full enough

Why don’t you try combi feeding instead of completely changing over? We breastfeed throughout the day and then when he’s ready for bed he has a formula bottle, he wakes once per night so the wake up he will have another formula bottle and I will pump both of those feeds when he’s asleep 😊
