Growth scan

Just after some advice, I’m a first time mum and my anxiety has been through the roof recently. I had a growth scan at 32 weeks, around 2 weeks ago and baby boy was on the 17tb centile weighing 3lbs 3oz. I went for another growth scan today and he’s gown down to the 9th centile weighing 4lbs 3oz. They have said not to worry as blood flow looks very good and heartbeat was very strong but I just feel I’m doing something wrong. I also have GD and I’m on Metformin twice a day, since starting medication my blood sugars have been completely in range. Thank you

I’m in the same boat. Reading what they’ve put they’ve said if there’s another problem - baby will have to come before 37 weeks. If he stays 3rd -10th then 39 weeks. If he goes below 3rd, 37 weeks and scans every two weeks now. Like you my blood flow is normal. My last baby was small. Sure all will be well but I know what you mean. I wish I could get the baby bigger and they’d leave me alone!

I find growth scans so stressful, especially because of the margin of error. I had one the other day for slow growth as my fundal height was behind by 2cm at 34 weeks. Now have to wait a gruelling 3 weeks before I have another to check if he's growing or not. It's even harder because so many people keep saying that their weight measurement wasn't accurate and baby was either 2 pounds smaller or larger than predicted, meaning their induction was essentially a little forced and probably unnecessary. I'm going off of the readings from my placenta, his heart rate and my amniotic fluid as well as baby movements, which I've been advised are all in normal and healthy ranges, just his weight reading a little low, so will try and push them to allow me to at least get to 39 weeks if safe enough. If any of those start showing signs of stress or decline then I'll be happy to induce, but I do wonder if sometimes they intervene a bit too much...

Im not sure what implications GD has on the growth scans or decision-making, but I'd just make sure to ask as many questions as you can and be as educated as you can to make the best decision for you and baby. Also, you are not doing something wrong! Providing you're not severely limiting calories or doing any drastic diets, then it's just one of those things unfortunately. Some of us just carry smaller babies.
