Swaddling

Anyone else still swaddle there 6 month old? Mine doesn’t roll so he’s safe but only just starting to break out of the swaddle now. I’m so sad to let this go lol! Anyway is it easy to transition to normal sleep bag? I keep thinking he’s going to wake himself up with his hand and arms. He isn’t swaddled in the day time only at night.

I swaddled until sometime in Jan, and used the love to dream transition swaddle to drop it (I didn't use the arms down swaddles) letting one arm free at a time. First arm didn't go so bad but once I did both he did wake himself up quite a bit the first few nights. The whole thing took under a week, so wasn't so bad :) best of luck!

i’m in the exact same position!! starting to wonder if he’s not rolling BECAUSE i’m swaddling🤔 he’s sitting unaided etc so i’m not too worried, let me know how you get on!! i’m still way to sleep deprived to try myself, he’s 6 months & 2 weeks and still wakes 4-5 times in the night if i’m lucky🥲xx

I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to stop swaddling at 8 or 12 weeks 🫠🫠 if he isn’t swaddled during the day then I think he’ll be just fine! We’ve always used sleeping bags. Best to transition cold turkey, good luck!

I did until he started rolling and it’s been so difficult transitioning him into a sleeping bag with his arms out now. Having to rock him to sleep instead of putting him down awake x

@Rach 😂 same here he rolls front to back but not back to front he is showing signs of to stop by breaking out but I keep thinking the nights I’ll do it I want at least a 3 hour stretch! I plan to stop within a week

@Kristine you are 😂 but I just don’t want to stop but I will within a week I will do it cold turkey but it’s a big milestone for me 😂

@Steff 💕 oh no really so basically starting again

I did it recently, i would advise getting a sleep bag and just do one arm in and one out for a week. He was finding the hole for the tucked in arm himself and eventually just got both arms out and didnt wake himself as much. First few days was longer nights with waking but i was sirpised it only took a week to get trough it. He loved the swaddles but i think he is getting better sleep now in a thin sleep bag

I swaddled my firstborn until she went into her own room at 7 months, literally just a cold turkey stop to using them and it didn’t affect her all. She still slept through the night With my second (my sept 24), he didn’t sleep through and we stopped swaddling him at 5 months to prepare for going into his own room and he slept through from the very first night we stopped 🤣

@Sophie really! Because I was thinking sometimes when he wakes it maybe because of the restriction! But I can only just try and see

@natasha yeah I was gobsmacked. I was adamant swaddles were the reason my first slept through but clearly for my second they had the opposite effect We just went cold turkey again and stopped swaddling him and he slept through straight away. Don’t get me wrong I had to put his dummy in sometimes but he wasn’t crying he was just fidgeting. I just leave loads of dummies in the next 2 me now so he can find them himself
