Mucus plug?

Might seem like a dumb question, how do you know when you’ve lost your mucus plug? I’ve had discharge in and on the toilet paper for the last couple days. Yesterday I had a weird mucusy brown drip in the loo but I don’t know what it was because when I wiped there was nothing on the paper.

I always wondered that. Had weird discharge all my pregnancy and always wondered how will I know if it was mucus plug.

That does sound like it could be a piece of it, but it's hard to say. The easiest way to know is if it happens with a bloody show. So a larger wad of it that is bloody. I had this with my first the morning that contractions started. Some people lose pieces of it over a longer span of time, even up to a few weeks, which makes it harder to tell. You can also lose it a bit early and it will sometimes redevelop. With my second, I never saw any large enough pieces to notice, so I don't know if I lost it in pieces or if it came out when things were progressing later. So keep an eye on it, if you get any red then definitely call a midwife to check, or if you get it on some toilet roll you can take a picture and compare to images online

i have no memory of losing my mucus plug with my first, from the pictures people have posted on here it just looks like big slimy discharge🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I’ve never noticed it in my other pregnancies but I lost a chunk this time. Trust me if you saw it you’d know as it’s just too thick to be “normal” discharge. But like someone else said, only a worry to lose if it’s good blood in and/or is accompanied by other things - like contractions for example
