Sudden shyness

My little one has been a very social baby all of her life, and suddenly she is acting shy in public spaces. I’m reading that it’s common for them to go through a “shy phase” as they realize that not all people they see are their “safe people”. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Around 18-20 months they get the “stranger danger” phase. It doesn’t have to be stranger though, usually just people they don’t see often or don’t know well. My kids all have really good intuition though and if they don’t like someone for an extended period of time I trust it. ❤️

She’s been slow to warm with new people since she was an infant, so I get that. It’s the clingy and shy thing in public that’s new. But developing that stranger danger social awareness makes sense, thank you!

My son is hesitant of strangers, but I wouldn’t say he’s very shy at all. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9v2jKIiSMA/?igsh=dzB6ZXNoamQwYmx0

That was very helpful, thank you!

I don’t want to label her as shy, I like the idea of watching her take her time and getting curious in social situations. Just wondering if others are noticing a similar sudden change in their 23 month olds.

Of course! I find his entire account quite helpful (:
