Car seats

What to do with car seats once your baby outgrows? Do you pass it on, do people take/ buy second hand if no signs of damage and hasn’t been used while car was in a crash? Or do they need to be scrapped???

I think if you aren't keeping it or giving it away, that there's a place to recycle them... I feel like I read that somewhere but haven't looked into it haha

@Jas thank you darling, I will look into it. Crazy how quickly they grow out of the first one given how much they cost 🙄🙄

It is advised not to buy second hand car seats but I do see people selling them. I tried to take a bumbo to a charity shop and they said they don’t take things like that and included car seats. I think if you can pass it on and it’s someone you know that would be a really kind thing to do but it is difficult with what to do with it!

In the US, Target has trade in events where you can get a credit towards a new seat or other purchase. I think they do it a few times a year.

I gave mine to my parents as a spare seat as they were looking after my nephew.

@Kayleigh no I completely get that I just don’t know anyone personally to give it to so might as well see if someone else will buy. We’ve literally used only a handful of times 🥲

@Kim I’m in uk, will have to see if something similar here x

Sometimes I keep them to pass down if I have more children, or I’ll donate them to friends or family. But it’s illegal to sell used seats in a lot of states (at least in stores) so I don’t sell my used seats. You can always save them and use them for the car seat trade in events at target also.

We passed ours onto my brother. I think as long as you can honestly say it’s never been in an accident there’s no reason to not pass on especially if it can help some s out who may not be able to afford one

Target and Walmart both have trade in events.

I save it for the car seat exchange that my local target does every year

Tbh I say scrap bc car seats are supposed to not be used after a certain amount of time anyways

You can take it to the fire station, they use them for practicing car extractions.

@Ayanna typically they have years before they expire

If you throw it out, cut the straps so no one can use it

@Jessica yeah that’s exactly true and I wouldn’t wanna risk giving someone an expired car seat same way I wouldn’t want someone to give me an expired one so I wouldn’t say scrap them
