After our first ivf baby we tried naturally for over 2 years… I am 41 now and we went through ivf for second. Currently 29 weeks!
@Dominique I’m sorry to hear it took you so long. Were you (as a couple) diagnosed with any issue? Great advice, thank you, and thank you for the kind thoughts x
Yeah I had endometriosis and was having issues ovulating. If I was in the same position again I would have had the endo surgery earlier and just gone straight to ivf. I spent so long trying different ovulation drugs and IUI. For my next pregnancy I’m just going to go straight to IVF again
I don't know how long you've been TTC but if you're over 35 and TTC for more than 6 months, it's a good idea to get a fertility check via a fertility specialist. Around 1/3 of couples have unexplained infertility too. In our case we fell into the unexplained infertility category but a very simple fix gave us the nudge we needed (thanks to Letrozole). Wishing you good luck 🍀🤞🏻
@Marcelina thank you. Yes we used letrozole to conceive our first. I was ovulating but I think it gave my system a little nudge.
Letrozole seems to do a lot more than just induce ovulation although that's a common reason why it's prescribed. In my case I was ovulating each month and had very regular cycles and I think Letrozole might have helped me with implantation. I'm not sure exactly how it helped me but it certainly did give me some much needed nudge I needed. Are you on Letrozole again? I would do it again (I did it to get my 2nd child).
@Marcelina you might be right! Not at the moment, I’m going to give it a few cycles and if no luck get a prescription for more.
Can you get a prescription just from a GP? I’ve never heard of Letrozole before
@Nikki I'm not sure GPs can. I got mine through a fertility specialist and this included monitoring of my cycles while taking the medication. There is a higher risk of multiple eggs being released when taking Letrozole and I had daily blood tests done from around CD 12 until ovulation was imminent to check if there was a risk of multiples that cycle. My FS could then warn me and I could make an informed decision to either abstain that cycle from TTC or keep going. I only released one egg when on Letrozole though, taking a 2.5mg tablet. I think the treatment plan needs to be adjusted to the specific needs of each patient so dosages can vary.
Oh I’m so sorry to hear that! It took me 6 years and the monthly let downs were horrible. Sometimes it felt like being on a horrible rollercoaster that I couldn’t get off 💔 What helped me was allowing myself a day or two to feel sad and grieve each month when it was unsuccessful. Giving myself space to feel those feelings and not feel guilty about it. But then also making sure I had other big things in my life that I was working on and focused on to help keep my mind off it. Sending lots of positive vibes your way
