Help please

Has anyone ever dealt with a newborn (1 month old) that only wants to drink 2 to 3 ounces ONLY every 3 to 4 hours?? He doesn't really seem to be interested in eating and he is OVERLY tired. Can barely stay awake during feedings...what was wrong??

He doesn't look yellow does he? X

Like yellow toned skin and eyes if so he could have jaundice that makes babys not want to eat and overly tired x

Putting on weight? I would probably ask for GP review.

has he passed his due date yet? and has he gained weight back to match/pass his birth weight? up until my son hit his due date he slept constantly... we had to strip him naked and "harass" him to get him to eat 😭

@Kaci he had jaundice when he was born. It has dropped significantly went from a 10.4 to a 2.5. however he used to be able to stomach more with me putting a cold cloth on him. However now, he is stomaching less? I'm so confused and worried.

That’s a normal amount to eat in one “sitting”! I was told once baby passes birth weight and as long as they don’t drop any weight to let them be and follow their cues. Don’t stress yourself out. Babies typically know exactly what they need just go with the flow if they are healthy. When my son was a newborn I just fed on demand when he wanted and let him sleep a lot. He was definitely a higher sleep needs baby and I felt like he was asleep 24/7. But he gained weight consistently so I just left him be it worked out.

My son was born slightly jaundiced he had to do a blue light treatment. They had told me the more they eat and drink it helps flush it from their system so try and get him to eat every 2-3 hours! I did struggle with my little guy too he wouldn’t latch but when my husband gave him a bottle he would fall asleep too so he would move it slightly side to side whenever he would doze off just to get him to keep eating

Sorry the more they eat, the more they pee and poop which flushes it**

I think this is normal. My baby was born 36+4 and had jaundice. I would take him outside to get sun and let him sleep as much as he needed to. But you should talk to your baby doctor to see if everything is okay ♥️

hmm, that sounds tough, but some babies just have their own little feeding rhythms, maybe check with your doc if you're super worried? Just looked it up on the 'Heal Baby Care App' and here's what it says: "It's concerning when a newborn shows signs of lethargy and reduced interest in feeding. At one month old, babies typically feed every 2 to 3 hours and consume about 2 to 4 ounces per feeding, but excessive sleepiness and low intake can indicate an underlying issue, such as dehydration or an infection. It's important to monitor for other signs, like wet diapers or changes in behavior. I recommend reaching out to a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation to ensure your baby is safe and healthy. Have you noticed any other symptoms, like fever or changes in skin color?
