I want to start soon but don’t know where to start especially since my son has a mind of his own
I’m kind of trying. When I see he starts to push, I ask him to wait and sit him right away (if potty is somewhat close). So far we succeeded few times.
This just showed up in my feed (not my birth group) but I used the Oh Crap Potty Training method with both of my mine and it went great. Will be doing again with the next one.
@Audrey what’s that - do share
@Shiloh mine too he will just do whatever he wants these days
@My I’ve already gotten the are you pooping and I get roared at for that question
It's a book, originally the "3 Day Method" but people got too hung up on the three-day timeline when it's more like stages and some kids take longer than others. Idk if this is the most current version (recent updates are more relaxed on night training I think). My first was self-iniating on Day 2, my second needed a reset and then still took a little longer. It's more about consistently progressing through the stages and working through potential regressions. The author strongly recommends potty training before 3 for developmental reasons, but there are chapters specific to training when they're older too. Really just the first 5 chapters are the main process and the rest is "troubleshooting" various issues - daycare, poop fears, age, regressions, etc. https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/oh-crap-potty-training-everything-modern-parents-need-to-know--to-do-it-once-and-do-it-right/9325496/item/11990138/
Wow thank you! Il check out the book
Just 2 days ago, I brought the potty out. The goal is not the potty train this early (I tried that with my daughter when she was this age and it failed). The goal is just to get him comfortable with sitting on it, maybe reading a book, letting him copy what I'm doing when I use the potty. Sitting him on it right now just makes him cry. So I'm gonna let him lead. We won't actually potty train (yes, that 3 day method thing) until like 2 y/o
@Sophia just fyi, if you plan to use that method eventually you aren't supposed to get the potty out in advance because they tend to come to see it as a toy. I had done the same thing before I read the book, but thankfully she had mostly just ignored it
What age did yall start potty training?
@Audrey interesting!!! I guess that was an obstacle with my daughter. She just wanted to sit there and read books for a while but not actually do anything. But idk, it worked pretty well for my daughter and when we finally started training, she learned really quickly. I'll give it some thought, thank you!! 🙏
Not yet but I want to start in May with our little one.
