Sweet cravings alternatives?

I’m currently 20 weeks, and ever since I hit 12 weeks I’ve had thee biggest sweets craving! I crave donuts, cookies, chocolate chip muffins, Oreos, and basically sweet bakery goods. Does anyone have any good alternatives? I’m so worried about developing gestational diabetes if I keep caving into these cravings! Before pregnancy, I was never a huge sweets person so this is all new.

Switch to fruit! Green apples and grapes have been some of my favorites during my pregnancy

I eat fruit everyday, but that’s not the type of sweet I’m craving unfortunately. I basically need chocolate lol.

To help my sweet tooth I like a baked sweet potato with Cinnamon sugar butter on it!

You can look up protein balls. I made some that had dairy free choc chips, peanut butter, flax seed, chia seeds, honey and vanilla. They are bommmmb. Apples and peanut butter. Or I do peanut butter on toast with protein choc milk (I’m sensitive to dairy). Apples with caramel dip and a granola on them. Or banana bites dipped in chocolate and freeze them

A few dates with a handful of almonds.

15 dates (pitted), two handfuls of almonds and two tablespoons of cocoa powder. Blend it up in a food processor, roll into balls, and roll in coconut. ❤️

I bought some Russell Stivers sugar free chocolates in a variety pack. Curbed my sweet craving! I also enjoy sugar free fudgesicles!

I buy Quaker chocolate rice cakes- they have small chocolate chips in them and very little total sugar. Also found sugar free chocolate! And toast with a bit of butter and cinnamon

Thanks guys! I’ll try all of that! Sugar free fudge pops and chocolate dipped rice cakes sound like they might help my cravings a little! Lol

I had a spicy craving in my First Trimester and then in my second it was all about the sweets, I just took my GD test last week (currently 28wk +6) and to my surprise I passed even though I was eating a bunch of strawberry ice cream the night before lol so don’t worry too much 🥰

I was like that when preggo too. Never had a sweet tooth before pregnancy but I crave for dessert with meals during pregnancy. I basically eat as much sweets as my husband with a sweet tooth and he said it was a “healthy” amount of sugar, although for me it was excessive since i never had a sweet tooth. I think if you indulge in moderation (which I did), i.e. have 1-2 pieces of chocolate after dinner, or 1 scoop of ice cream every few days, the level of sugar that you intake should not affect GD. Assuming you are healthy with no underlying health conditions. Unless of course you eat desserts throughout the day... every single day, then that puts you at risk of GD. 😅😅😅

There are tons of recipes out there for low sugar baked goods! I love a good cake sweetened with apple sauce or some other kind of fruit.

Have a look at this website, I bake stuff from here all the time, the indulgence but without the sugar and crap, this receipe is 🤤 I do it without the toppings and spread https://livias.co.uk/recipe/biccy-boms-chocolate-loaf/

Yasso greek yogurt bars are great, on the healthier side and get the job done

Lots of fruit. I like the blackberry pineapple combo

Sugar free jelly! X

I ate a lot of fruit to help with my sweet cravings when I was pregnant

Peanut butter by the spoonful was my go to during pregnancy. I also make my morning oatmeal with baking cocoa (unsweetened) and no sugar, so it gets me the warm chocolate fix without actually being a sweet.

Clementines dipped in dark chocolate and cooled in fridge is a good sweet snack! Any healthy berries too. I also ate a lot of kettle corn which is a good combo of sweet and salty! High in fiber too 😉

Thanks !!

Give in! GD isn’t because of what you eat but how the placenta reacts to sugar. Even the strictest of women can get GD, same as overindulgers never getting it.

I am the same. 11 weeks here and craving all sweet treats! I made brownies tonight and it totally did the job. Made 3 days worth so I don’t get tempted to snack unhealthy. Oven on 250. Line a tin. 145g banana, 10g cocoa powder, 10g peanut butter, 10g protein powder (I use Vitimum) Mix banana & peanut butter together then add other ingredients. Bake for 10 mins cool for 10 mins. This makes 1 portion. Yums! You could add nuts or dried fruit if you wanted. 282kcal/15protein/35carbs/9fat.

Cheese. It helps a lot.

i always sliced up banana, shaved dark chocolate onto it, and froze it 😍 would also put pb (or almond butter) with it if i was feeling real frisky.

Seems your craving chocolate alot, and I know pregnancy cravings are different than normal cravings, but you could look up what you might actually be craving.. or rather what your body is missing. I'm low iron and I constantly crave red meat during my current pregnancy. I'm not a red meat Eater normally, but its my main craving. I also dont know how scientific the whole "craving/deficiency" thing is, but it might help. Now you could just really want those baked goods. Lol and I feel that. Look into healthy sweet snacks. I like to make a fruit smoothie when I have a craving for sweets. I eat carrots when I was chips, since ik with chips is the crunchiness lol. I've tricked myself in those ways, which dont always help. Sometimes I just grab the chocolate chips from my backing cabinet. Lol

Omg I'm 12 weeks and starting to want so much sweet 😅 I have always had a sweet tooth but since being pregnant *even before finding out* I was becoming so healthy and thought oh god that's good, then found out I was 8 weeks pregnant then I'm 12 now and starting to crave junk again..... I hope It won't be too bad If I do eat a bit of junk here and there

I recently discovered yogurt bark 🤤🤤🤤 its great

I had GD qnd my go to was nature valley dark chocolate protein bars 9r apples with peanut butter.

I have been loving smart sweets and Lily’s chocolate lately (ordered them both from target) and they are both low sugar alternatives to regular candy options that are sooo good!

I crave a lot of sweets too! Mostly because my mouth is dry. I'll usually eat a fruit like orange, make a smoothie or drink a fruit juice like apple or cranberry juice. Sometimes sugar free gum helps too!

When I crave sweets I have apples with peanut butter. Or just a fruit with a Low calorie dip. It’s so good. 💞

Sunflower seeds! They take forever to eat and keep your mouth occupied.

Watermelon! Waaso good juicy and sweet.

I make myself yogurt parfaits :) fresh fruits and yogurt sometimes with dried coconut flakes and agave :)

I craved sweets my entire pregnancy and ate them and I never got gestational diabetes and my doctor told mee I was doing amazing and just to keep doing what I was doing

Yoghurt, oats, berries, cinnamon and maple syrup yumm

I have those cravings now and I’m not even preggo 😵 Fortunately my husband is anti sweet, soooo I’ve learned moderation is key. I’ve started baking a lot of the s sweet stuff that I want to eat. This way I can cut down on the sugar or use alternative sweeteners such as maple syrup or honey. I’ve also been able to find healthy sweet recipes online because it seems to be the fad nowadays. So the favorite “treat” in our house for years have been “chia tapioca.” So sweet, satisfying and good for you. Also, almond balls...terrific alternative to cookie dough!! 🤤 Anyway, good luck and be well :)

You look great for 20 weeks so I wouldn’t worry

I’ve had the worst sweet cravings :( any food I eat like veggies or sweet fruits just does not hit the spot at all :(

Me too! I was eating lots of fruit. Chocolate covered nuts are good too. Or sorbet ice cream.

Craving sweets .....are you having a girl?

I've developed a really sweet tooth since finding out im pregnant. I just eat what I fancy but try and limit to 1 rather than the whole pack 😂

We are lucky we have candy floss flavoured grapes and I lived on them

I experience that myself...i eat a LOT of fruit...been on an orange kick...

Fruit smoothies....add in some chocolate protein powder and it'll taste like a milkshake

Dried blueberries are amazing

Find some healthy (no sugar, no oil, all whole wheat flour) bread recipes! Like banana bread or apple sauce bread!

I eat strawberry yogurt with a tiny but of m and ms in it.

Yogurt and smoothies. I always craved ice cream and when I mentioned it to my OB she said that ice cream is not as terrible as everyone thinks because yes it has sugar but it’s also dairy so there are worse things 🤷🏻‍♀️ Everything in moderation
