5 month old activities

Hey everyone my baby is 5 months old and I want to reduce/cut screen time as I have read up on how bad it is what activities did people do to keep their baby entertained. Thank you in advance.

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Tablet for kids

Alright don’t need any negative Nancy’s telling me not to get my 2yo a tablet so if that’s what your gunna do please don’t participate in my poll.

We’re about to move cross country 3+ day trip and my 2yo and 9m hate the car I’m talking scream their heads off till they are out of their seats. We’ve already changed car seats and it didn’t help so I’d like to at least have one entertained and sit next to baby and try and distract her or put her to sleep. Our new car has tvs but since they are rear faced my 2yo can’t see it.

Debating getting her a tablet or dvd player right now on long car rides I end up giving her my phone because I get so overwhelmed sitting in between both of them screaming and crying.

And yes I do bring different toys I bring snacks I play songs try to distract her other ways but for the sake of not losing my mind on this move I think this is best.

TODDLER SPORTS

Any moms put their toddles in little sports yet ? My baby just turned two in early February & I signed him up for soccer. He’s been in it for about a month & thriving 😩 plus it’s the cutest thing!
He’s very advanced for his age so me & hubby figured it was a good idea. It wasn’t necessarily for progression in the sport which is a plus & he is for sure progressing sooo well! It had a lot to do with providing space for him to create some independence (he is a Velcro baby to me in particular) like glued to my hip ! So wanted him to learn to interact with others smaller than him & other adults outside of immediate family. Also coordination as well as taking direction well from others, burning off some energy & opening up his mind to something new. There are some other factors but that kind of sums up my thought process.

Travel Buggy

Hi,
I will be going away to France for the Easter weekend and wondered what everyone’s thoughts were on putting my baby in a travel buggy.
He will be 5 months literally the day after we get there and I know it’s recommended to wait until they can either sit up or are 6 months old. He still cannot sit up.
Would you use a travel buggy for your just turned 5 month old if they can’t sit up or would you take the bassinet/use the car seat?
I would of course have it inclined. I’m not sure if there are any inserts I can get to help hold him more securely.

I know this has been posted to death but it’s taking me ages to go back to the posts. Any travel buggy recommendations would be great too.

Saying NO to buying toys etc

5 year old is getting really envious of others. He is obsessed with items that other kids have at school. I am pestered daily to buy these things in a different style when we already have 3 others. I have seen parents just buying stuff their kid likes which I don't necessarily agree with even when i can afford it. How do you deal with it?

Screen free play for bubba 4 months

I live in a studio so the TV is in our very small space how do I entertain my baby without having it on eventhough I like background noise ? And toys etc to keep him entertained with his low attention span

Is this clever or cruel?

My husband and i were talking and with social media and the internet in general being a terrifying dumpster fire, we are trying to figure out the best way to keep our son safe while still teaching him how to safely be online and moderation.

We landed on the idea of giving him the 90's kid treatment. A computer in the living room for us to keep an eye on what hes doing online, and once we feel hes mature enough to hang with friends without adult supervision he gets a flip phone. When we feel he is responsible enough and he earns and saves up the money for the physical phone, case, and screen cover, then we will be happy to take him to get a smart phone.

I thought this was air tight, but now my brother says its cruel to give a kid a flip phone, and besides he can just use his friends phones at school.

My husband and i remember a time before the internet, and we remember having complete access to something no one understood yet. We saw unspeakable things and are always battling with the urge to put the phone and social media down. I dont want that for my son, especially with his brain so vulnerable still.

especially ones that don’t use screen time (i do) lol but i’m running out of things to do daily helpp

Entertainment ideas for a 2yr old while feeding for an hour

Anyone got any ideas that isn't TV for an active boy toddler that's 2 (next week).
He gets bored of drawing, he loves his cars but will do 20 mins of solo play, and loves watching Mojo swaptops and cars the movie and keeps asking for it but I don't wanna keep putting him in front of the TV all the time

Reading issue - how do I bring this up to his teacher?

Hi all, my son brings home a book to read as homework everyday and he has been on the same band since he started reception.

Recently they seemed to be far too easy for him so I got some of the books online. We have been trying them and he is comfortably 4 bands above at home, 5 at a stretch.

Im a little confused, he’s my first child and I haven’t any experience of how they learn to read at school. I asked one of the other mums to see if the whole class was doing the same books but her little boy is a band above so it’s not that.

What could be happening here? And how should I approach it without sounding like a pushy mother? 🤣🤣

By the way I don’t care what band he’s on or what others are on - I care that this gap in his ability hasn’t been noticed, maybe they haven’t reassessed him?

Ideas for Activities??

Hi all ! The weather has slowly started to get better around here so we've been able to go out the house a bit more. We do plenty of 1-1 chats and play time at home too. But lately im finding myself struggling to fill the longer wake windows with my 9month old who is constantly wanting to either be on the move but cannot yet crawl, or gets bored after 10 minutes of a single activity. Goes in her walker on and off which she loves, and floor time too but everything ive been doing previously I feel is no longer enough for her if that makes any sense ?? . What do you guys do for instance on a nice day, when alone for the whole day with baby apart from a general stroll around town/park ? My baby is often having 1-2 naps throughout the day, so there's plenty of time to do activities but at the same time I dont really know of any age appropriate things for her to do that I can also do alone with her as I dont have a friend group of other mums to meet etc. And her dad works all day long. I don't drive either. I thought about taking her to the beach on a nice day but concerned that shes yet too young and likely will just eat the sand more than anything 😅. Im starting to feel quite bad/guilty that im not doing much with her . Any suggestions??

Activity pass

Whats your favorite activity pass to get for the salt lake county area? I have a 13 month old and I got an aquarium pass for him for the first year of his life. He seemed to enjoy it and I could see myself possibly getting another this year, but I wanted to see if you think there is something more worth the money.

PS I am a teacher and will have summer off for adventures.

Does anyone know of, or be interested in a walking mums group? As the weather gets better, it would be nice to get out on more walks and with company it would be even better! 😀

4yo reading and writing level

Advice and question… My 4yo, turning 5 in June can sing her ABC’s, trace most letters(but not write on her own) and identify several letters(but not all). I’ve been working with her to learn sounds and write letters but I’m afraid, is she falling behind?

Would love any recommendations of products/programs to do as she starts
Kindergarten next year.
