Joana Santos Martins

Born in 1983 in the outskirts of Lisbon, Joana (she/her) soon decided to be a doctor.

She finished medical studies in 2007 in Lisbon’s Medical Faculty.

Working as a pediatrician since 2009, Joana was first as a resident, then, after 2014, as a specialist.

The long training years were developed in different clinical settings: ambulatory care, primary care, and tertiary hospital.

After 2014, Joana was working in the only pediatric hospital in Lisbon (D. Estefânia Hospital), first in the emergency department, then in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Since 2022, Joana’s been dedicated to private practice only.

Fun facts about Joana

During her training years, Joana got the opportunity to work abroad, collaborating with a local NGO in São Tomé and Principe, one of the world’s poorest countries.
