✨Beauty for Ashes ✨
Are you familiar with the story of Tamar in the Bible? (2 Samuel Chapter 13) Tamar is the daughter of King David! So basically, she was a Beautiful Princess! The Bible speaks of this robe that she wore, and it’s said to be the robe that Virgin daughters of Kings wore. So here’s Tamar, a Beautiful Virgin Princess! Her half brother Amnon was in love with her, & tricked her into coming into his room to care for him as he claimed to be “ill”. Being obedient, she went and cared for her brother.
While she was taking care of him, he grabbed her & tried to have sex with her but she refused him because he was her brother & she knew it was wrong. He overpowered her, & raped her. After he raped her, he hated her, & treated her badly. He threw her out of the place where he stayed.
Tamar runs & weeps with her hands in her face. She bends over, & covers her face with ashes from the ground. She rips her beautiful virgin robe apart, running away in shame crying & weeping out loud. To me, covering her face in ashes was a symbolic way of her showing how dirty & ashamed she felt on the inside. When I first read that story, I cried. It’s like I felt every ounce of pain that she felt! God then lead me to do further research on Tamar & who she REALLY was. What I discovered, brought tears of joy & thankfulness to my eyes!
Tamar is in the genealogy of Jesus! (Matthew chapter 1 - not the 1st Tamar) as I read in Matthew I discovered that her Father King David, was the son of Jesse. If you keep reading in the genealogy of Jesus, which I won’t list because it’s a lot! you eventually see Jacob, father of Joseph who is Mary’s husband. Mary, mother of Jesus!
I began to see this story in a new light. Tamar, carried Jesus within her although the story of Jesus wasn’t yet told. She didn’t know of a redeemer that could save her & restore her & give her beauty for her ashes. But, we know! Or maybe you don’t know? Jesus is here for you, & today He wants to give you beauty for those ashes that you’ve rubbed on your own face. He will lift your head, & wipe away those tears of sadness & replace them with Joy. Sis, you don’t have to feel ashamed & dirty anymore.✨
Absolutely love this 🤍
