Yeah id say the whole front half is overkill, I personally can't say cause I'm having a girl and never had a boy. But these are all good notes because I do want a boy someday
We just put a big swirl of ointment right on the tip at every change, and that was enough.
We were given individual cause with ointment already on it to put over him. I would considering getting some sterile gauze and coating that with ointment instead of the diaper
Xeroform petrolatum dressing is what we were given.
My son is 2 weeks old we just went through the circumcision process. what the nurses should us was..saturate non woven gauze 8x 8 with white petroleum jelly and put it over his penis …do this at every diaper change and change the gauze at every diaper change. The nurses gave me all the materials at the hospital but Walgreens target sells the gauze in boxes.
We also put gauze on for my son for the first few weeks. Ointment on the penis, gauze on top, the a bit on the front of the diaper
Thanks everyone! We’ve been doing the gauze as well as covering his penis with the ointment and it’s worked so much better. Idk why they would say cover the diaper is something that makes it completely non absorbent but I guess that’s the beauty of this app - helps problem solve all things baby related :) have a great week ladies & thank you again for the advice! ❤️
@Lee how did he do? My son will be about two weeks also for his. I can’t help but worry about my poor baby hurting 😭 was he fussy? Did he seems like he was in pain?
Hi I wanted to know Was your sons penis quite swollen the next day and the tip already dark? I had mine done yesterday and I’m overthinking everything getting worried it’s not ok 😩
@Dolores I don’t remember it being dark necessarily but it was definitely swollen and for a while. I was totally paranoid it wasn’t healing right (bc this is all new!) and my husband assured me it would be fine! It looked like there was almost a crust around it too which the doctor said was normal as long as it was clean and not pus or looking infected. Swelling is def expected though so I’m sure your little guy is okay! I made sure it was the first thing the doc checked at our two week appt though just to ge sure :)
I don't have personal experience but when my nephew was healing my sister was told put ointment on a cotton pad (new one each change) and put that directly on his penis, then the diaper was still absorbent because it didn't touch the ointment but the wound was covered and allowed to heal.
