I just signed up with them they are great!
Loved Sage Femmes Rougevalley Midwives. So competent and calming, so helpful during birth & after for the check ups too! Centenary Hospital was OK - no horror stories, just felt a little like I was getting passed from nurse shift to nurse shift & the new nurse would always be surprised something wasn’t explained to me from the previous nurse.
@Chelsea oh dear. Thank you. I’ve heard great things about these midwives. But not so much good about centenary. It’s quite concerning. I’m hoping my midwife being there rather then just the on and nurses will make my delivery there better. Thank you for the advice. Hospital bag will be repacked!!! I Thoughttttt it was a better hospital than Scarborough General at McCowan. But the midwives at sages have only a select few hospitals they work from. Which left me with just those two options for Scarborough
@Jane G Thank you for your feedback. It’s my first and I’m not even sure what acceptable or what’s not. So it’s hard to judge what my expectations or experience should be like. If the nurses aren’t the greatest.. is it “okay” only because the midwife will be there to support their Lack of?
Hi. They are awesome. I gave birth November 2022 and My midwives were katrin and Cara. I had a home birth. It was incredibly smooth. I have no idea how Centenary is about delivery. I only went there for follow up bilirubin test which we cleared. But I hear good things about Scarborough general.
@Oluwaseun yessss those are my two midwives too!! I do like them. I have high blood pressure so they suggest it’s best for a hospital birth. Not even a birthing centre. I’m so weary now about centenary but your right I have been hearing more about Scarborough General. It’s actually where I was born myself. I dont know why it wasn’t my first option. Just thought it was pretty old vs centenary
Hi, I’ve had great experience with sages femmes and centenary. Midwife was present at the birth, nurses only came at the end. I stayed at centenary 24h and I had amazing nurses at the postpartum ward, very informative. It looks clean and probably recently renovated, no complaints there. Food was reasonably okay.
Oh, and sages femmes are great! The best thing is they come to visit you at your home 2 days and 7 days after the discharge from the hospital, that’s not the option with obstetricians. Not to mention it’s highly unlikely obstetrician of your choice will be present at your birth. Midwifes makes it so much more personable and warm.
@Ana omg thank you!!!! Yes this is exactly why I’ve chosen to go with a midwife. Thank you for your feedback I was pretty worried about the hospital I haven’t been hearing much good about them. I do love the attentiveness from midwives.
@Dion Oh that's Great!. They are Wonderful and you would have a lovely experience with them. They are patient and would answer any question you have no matter how many😊. Their advice is also quite on point. So so sorry about the B.p. They would want to be at the hospital so that they can better monitor you during labour. You would get 2 home visits ( at day 2 and day 7) and 2clinic checks (at 3weeks and 6weeks). Yes Scarborough General is pretty old 😊 especially when compared with Centenary but I can't really say much about the services of either of them. I wish you a very smooth and safe delivery Mama
Do you know if they help you find a paediatrician afterwards?! What do you do once your fairy godmother midwife is gone!!
Lol (fairy godmother midwife) . They can give you a list if you ask for pediatricians available in the area but not really connect you to one (I asked). I think you would have to do that yourself. But U can still try asking 😊
Thank you!!! Who knew having children would be so complicated. Definitely going to ask at least they can steer me in the right direction other then googling dr near me. SMH
Rougevalley midwives are great! I had Laura & Donna which were AMAZING. Centenary Hospital was fine for me. Hit & miss with nurses (gave birth in July 2022). Make sure you bring enough diapers, clothes & essential baby stuff or they get snarky for asking for extras.
