Purflo sleep pod

Just wondering if anyone has a Purflo sleep pod? My husband and I bought one at the Baby Show as we were told it was safe for unsupervised night sleep and naps in the day, however in an online antenatal class today they said to not use sleep pods / nests at all - even in the day as it can affect baby sleeping at night - and I’m now a bit worried! I’ve messaged the Lullaby Trust for their guidance but wondered if anyone had used one and could share their experience? This is the product we have - https://purflo.com/the-sleep-tight-baby-bed/

I think it might be ok for supervised daytime naps but not for night time. But I’m not 100% sure so would be interested to know what the lullaby trust says

Was it the baby academy one? I've also bought one as at a baby show I went they said they were safe under sleep regulations. I think because they are lay completely flat from what the woman on the baby academy course I did this morning was saying they're not safe because they're propped slightly up when in a nest. Purflo the space in the middle is flat for baby to lay? I'm no expert but I think I'll use my judgement when baby arrives xx

We have one and i have read that it is the only ‘nest’ approved for safe overnight sleep due to flat surface and breathable sides and base. I personally will only be using mine for day naps and he will be supervised but that is due to the fact I have a bassinet upstairs for him anyway!

Not safe for unsupervised sleep x

@Lauren yes it was the baby academy this morning! The one we have is the bed so there’s a big space in the middle for sleeping. I understand about the propping up and how that isn’t safe, but I’m a bit confused how they can advertise as safe for unsupervised overnight sleep if it isn’t 🙈 x

@Sammie do you know why? I’ve tried to find research etc but can’t! X

@Katie we’ve got a next to me for upstairs but I was hoping a familiar place / scent would be helpful as we’re going to a wedding a couple of hours from home at the end of October so baby will be in a travel cot. It’s a bit confusing isn’t it?! X

I bought this too & when reading up on the lullaby trust. They have no confirmed/ reported cases of SIDS related to the use of pods or nests. Also after researching and looking into the”Purflo” pods website it states …. The Sleep Tight Baby Bed was designed as a safe place for babies to sleep overnight and during naps, and has undergone extensive product safety testing with this in mind. As with any new Purflo baby product, advice was sought from two independent UKAS accredited test houses to determine the most appropriate testing. As with all new to market innovations there is no one safety standard which fits the Sleep Tight Bed, so it has been tested to relevant aspects of existing safety standards for similar sleep products. Our technical experts worked with independent UK-based laboratories to put the Sleep Tight Bed through a comprehensive risk assessment for everyday use and overnight sleep and exhaustive safety testing. Therefore I’d say it’s down to individual preference.

@Amber yeah I was on the same one and wondered the same thing. I think because they're lay flat in the middle of if I'm still going to use it. As everyone says it's personal preference isn't it. I have a moses basket for downstairs and a next to me for upstairs and was planning on using the purflo in both as you said as a familiar space until he gets bigger. Surely they wouldn't be able to advertise it as safe if it wasn't. Iknow some of the pods do state not to leave unsupervised and people still do. I think it's down to you and what you think. It's so hard as a FTM because you get a different opinion off everyone you speak to xx

@Sammie Where has this info come from?? I’m intrigued 🙂

@Lauren I agree, I’ve read the info on the website about the safe sleeping and do feel a bit better as I’m confident they couldn’t advertise it as safe sleeping if it wasn’t etc. I’ve found that a lot of people are giving me a lot of advice / opinions and because I’m not already a mum, my opinion is disregard due to them having experience and me not. I’ve found I t’s quite stressful! Xx

@Amber I’m the same too, I’ve learnt to just do what’s right for me and baby as id never put them at any risk and would always use my noggin!😃 What I’ve also found is some people don’t even know the correct information before quickly commenting giving their own personal views with no evidence whatsoever. 🤔 A lot of stuff is frowned upon but I say use your common sense, be safe and you’ll be absolutely fine 🥰

@Amber exactly we will know what to do for our babies 😘 x

We've got one as well. But will only use it for supervised daytime only and not for unsupervised over night time

Lullaby Trust advised against them as the mattresses / cushion aren’t safety regulated, so there’s a high risk of SIDS x

@Amie hmm that’s not what it said when I read it…. When reading up on the lullaby trust. I think like many things, some versions are tested to be safe and some aren’t. Just as some pram bassinets are approved for overnight sleeping so are some (only the Purflo that I know of) nests. I have read the write up of the testing of the Purflo and I am happy that it has been tested to a good degree and as above I will be using it for safe sleep following the other NHS guidelines.

I was going to get one of these and then the health visitor told me not to, she said they aren’t sleep safe because they are too soft and newborns need something firmer to sleep on. I was going to get one just for nap times downstairs.

We’ve bought this even with no intention of letting baby sleep in it (may decide to when supervised), but it felt like the most logical one to purchase. But I’d be surprised if they can advertise it for safe sleep if it’s not, so go with your own personal preference.
