tuna and cheese for weaning

Hi, just wanted to ask because I'm not sure which one to give. Is it ok to give canned tuna? if yes, which one do you give? because they all have salt in it. Secondly, can we give any kind of cheese to our babies? Thanks

According to the Solid Starts app that was recommended by my HV, canned tuna is not safe under 24 months. When it comes to cheese, some are safe for 6+ months and some aren't, depending on the levels sodium. Hope this helps :)

Tuna in spring water is okay

The Solid Starts App is American and their advice differs to the UK. The NHS states 'From six months old, the NHS advises it is safe for babies to eat tuna. That's because tuna is a great source of protein, which is important for helping the body to grow and repair. Tuna also includes: magnesium (for energy and bone health)' I've given my 7m old sainsburys own tuna in spring water once so far. I would just say not too much too often. So a small amount once a week would be fine ☺️

My boy loves tuna and is a bit obsessed with cheese. He has cheese, crackers and cucumber most days for his lunch and finishes it everyday 🙂 He likes dairylea, red leicester and cheddar so far, and mozzarella on pasta!

Tuna in spring water is fine! Cheese is also okay 😊

Tuna and cheese both good for baby, solid start is American and some things the app says is questionable such as they say grapes should only be halved by 18 months but really to take away the choking risk grapes should always be quartered length ways baby can eat pretty much anything you eat bar honey and unpasteurised foods and making sure food are cut and served correctly xx

Both fine. Just be wary of how salty cheese is. We also had a bit of choking with mozzarella that had gone cold and chewy. Could always save it til baby is older

I did read if you rinse tinned fish in some water if can help reduce sodium levels a little further if worried. But yes done tinned tuna, salmon and mackerel. Cheese we've tried littlr bit of parmesan and Cheddar cooked into things, plain thin slices of mozzarella, cream cheese, got some goats cheese to try next
