Margot or Margaux?

Hi everyone! 3 weeks ago we had another baby girl and we are currently loving our baby bubble! We have a daughter called Matilda who is 2 and a half and loving being a big sister. We do have a huge dilemma though which I am hoping for some outside thoughts on.. my husband and I love the name Margot for our little girl, however , we both can not agree on the spelling!! I prefer Margot for its classic feel and my husband wants to spell it Margaux!! I do also love Margaux but can’t help but worry it’s closely linked to the region and neither of us are french ! Would appreciate your thoughts on if you think Margaux is suitable or should we stick with the traditional way? I’m getting really worried over it as we need to register her soon and I don’t want to regret the name spelling choice :( Thanks in advance! X

Love Margot, classic and timeless 💕

Margot is beautiful x

Margot is how I would assume it's spelt. My personal feeling is that with the other spelling she may regularly have to spell it out to people.

I would go for Margot (like the ballerina) rather than Margaux which is more famously known as a bottle of wine.

Margot x

I would go with Margaux personally but I’m French and love French names! It sounds like you’d have less chance of regret if you spelt it Margot though as I think given the recent increase in popularity of the name with Margot Robbie etc. that’s how most people will assume it’s spelt, so you wouldn’t have to worry about correcting people over the spelling all the time, I feel you’re more likely to have the name misspelt in the UK if you went with Margaux. I love also Matilda! That’s on our list if we have a girl x I think Margot and Matilda are a nice pair of names!

Margot - I feel like the other spelling will confuse people in the future and it will be pronounced wrong all the time. Especially once she's at school.

Margot, I think it’s just easier all round personally x

awww our little girl was born on 2nd August and we have called her Margot! We had the same dilemma 🤣

Margot 🥰

Margot

My sil is Margaux and she’s S African. It won’t be an easy name for her to learn to spell but apart from that.

I like Margot xxx

Another vote for Margot - I associate Margaux with the wine!

@Audrey it really is a beautiful way of spelling it. But like you say, I might end up constantly correcting peoples spelling of it in the U.K. . It’s so hard to decide ! I really am 50 50 with what to do! We also loved the names Matilda and Margot/Margaux together 🤍 thanks so much for your thoughts x

@Charlie yes my first inspiration for the name was because of Margot Fonteyn 🤍 and I’m worried people will associate Margaux in the U.K. with the region … but equally I love the spelling of Margaux ! I’m so torn!! Thank you so much for your thoughts x

Margot I like that way , Also Out of interest due to this being one of our baby names we like, does she have a middle name I’m struggling to find one that flows x

@Paige our little girl is called Margot and her middle name is Rose!

@Chloe I love that my first born is called Lila-Rose though x

@Paige we have two middle names! We named her Margot Arabella Rose. ❤️

@Paige our first daughter is called Matilda Lyllie Rose . We decided to use the name Rose for Margot too because we loved the idea of the girls both sharing the name forever. So if they were to marry in the future and change their name they will still share Rose. X
