How much gaviscon do you give? I have found putting it in every other bottle helps my little girl, and she’s still regular 💩
We gave ours gaviscon (once per day) and she was in so much pain on a night with her tummy that I had to stop it after just 2 days. Our dr said to try either gaviscon or swap her milk so we’re going to try swapping her milk soon I think
@Danielle well, our GP didn't give any instructions so we just followed what was on the box which said up to 6 a day 😬 so we could definitely look to lower it
@Abi my LO is EBF 😕
@Monique my LO is EBF and we are trying gaviscon but trying to give it to her is a right faff, and she wasn’t keen. How did you manage?
We gave up and decided to deal with the reflux instead. He's 18 weeks now and the reflux is relentless but he doesn't seem uncomfortable with it after I cut out dairy (EBF). The quantity is still excessive but he's otherwise happy and healthy. Gaviscon constipated him to the point he got admitted to hospital 😔
6 a day is the max, I did just one a day x
Over 4.5kg and can go upto 12 a day. Its the case of 2 evils for us too! Constipation or worse reflux symptoms... we now use half sachets. It helps keep the projectile vomiting away, and LO isn't so pained from constipation- help of some poo exercises I.e. bicycle legs regularly etc
@Betty I express for all of her bottles in the day and just feed her directly from the breast for her night feeds (she would only be at the breast for 5 mins at a time in the day and I was getting stressed not knowing how much milk she was getting so preferred being able to see it) so we just add a sachet to her bottle x
@Vicki oh gosh that sounds scary! I hope he's doing okay now! I'm vegan so already no dairy in my milk 🤷🏼♀️ x
@Fay did you find that helped? I forgot to give her a sachet for one of her bottles the other day and she was immediately hiccuping and bringing it back up so I'm worried if we went to one a day then she would only keep down one bottle a day 😕
I have played with quantities So 1/4 a sachet or half per Bottle instead as directed by dr due to fears around constipation Carobel made my baby have painful gas Infant gaviscon has been a game changer for us Also given him lactulose for short term relief once until he was regular again
We’ve just been through the same. My little boy has now been put on omeprazole and seems much happier x
@Danielle same I do half sachets or 1/3 sachet and he’s great on it

@Monique I would definitely try and lower the dose, I have two sachets a day to start with, now she’s having more milk I give her 3. Sometimes it’s just trial and error until you find what works ❤️
@Monique I commented further down however I am ebf too. Little one has real bad reflux, gaviscon made him constipated and didn’t cure much. He now has omeprazole and is so much better. Also so much easier for us as it’s one dose a day rather than making gaviscon feeding that then breastfeeding, I found it draining. X
My daughter had it from when she was 3 weeks old till around 3 months old. At beginning her poo was normal but after week 6 she was pooping less and just before we took her off of it, she was only doing marbles. As she only had it 2 times in a bottle with expressed breast milk, we took her off just to see if her reflux got better, and it did! As their stomach muscle gets stronger, reflux got better, still have sick but nowhere as bad as before, we just live with it now
I’m in this situation right now but with anti reflux milk. The constipation is now affecting her sleep so I’m thinking that the dribble and sick is the lesser of the evils 😴 We tried using the anti reflux milk intermittently but it’s not helping the constipation. I’m going to try a week back on the usual formula and see if it repairs the sleep situ (especially as we are going away on a family break next weekend 😩) and go from there. It’s honestly a headache!!
We tried the gaviscon for a couple of weeks but then moved on to lanzeprozle (sp?) which is just one a day and doesn’t make him constipated. I’m also EBF and there’s defo some mild dairy intolerance, if I have porridge or Greek yoghurt he’s much worse x
We only give gaviscon in four bottles a day, and we put the gaviscon in 5 oz of breast milk instead of 4, and her poops are firmer but she still goes easily
I had this so swapped to carobel to thicken my sons milk instead and see if that helped and he seems fine and he no longer constipated x
