Royal Surrey or Frimley Hospital?

Hi, I am about to move to Guildford at 31 weeks pregnant. I’m currently with UCLH but think it’ll be too far away for labour. Would love to know how you’ve found either Royal Surrey or Frimley?

Most definitely would pick Royal Surrey, had both my LOs there and couldn’t speak higher of it!

I’m with Royal Surrey and have had brilliant experiences so far, myself and my partner have had operations there and they’ve been seamless. The maternity unit has the midwife led and consultant led sections connected by a door so if anything goes wrong you are in safe hands and can be moved from one unit to the other quickly!

I’ve heard nothing but bad about royal Surrey, also had bad experiences there myself with the way I was treated, I’m with frimley and what a difference they have made, they are also known for the best antenatal unit xx

Had both mine at Frimley. Fantastic midwife led birthing suites there that I used (called the mulberry suite) if that’s your kind of thing. Great experiences both times

I’ve had a really good experience with Royal Surrey so far! But also heard good things about Frimley!

Both have reputations for maternity services. I had my LO at Royal Surrey in May and had a great experiences I’d say Royal Surrey just based on distance 😃

I was at Royal Surrey for my first birth and had a great experience so am going there for my second too. The midwifes looked after me really well and set the room up with mood lighting and fairy lights when in labour.

I had both of my babies at Frimley and I cannot fault them one bit. They were amazing and I had the most relaxing and perfect water birth for my first, second was a bit rushed as I almost didn’t make it to the hospital before having him but they were all so great and supported me throughout the entire experience both times. I’m pregnant with my third and although I live in Godalming I will be choosing Frimley again for my birth (unless I decide to have a home birth). I couldn’t recommend Frimley enough. 😊

I had my little boy at the Royal Surrey and my aftercare at Frimley due to moving shortly before birth. Both have been great. Only thing I would mention is that birthing partners can stay the entire time at Royal Surrey whereas at Frimley they have to go home in the evenings x

Royal Surrey is amazing! We had our baby girl on Monday, was a very traumatic birth after a positive induction and I had to have a blood transfusion. The staff are bloody amazing!! We are unfortunately back in for jaundice treatment but I’m happy with how amazing the staff have been 🩷

Frimley by a mile!!

Royal Surrey. Bittersweet. They sent me home when I said I was in labour despite me insisting to stay there because I knew what was going on in my own body. Home is 20 minutes away. I came fully dilated a couple of hours later, thought I’d give birth in the roundabout and fell onto my knees in the lift from the strong contractions. They didn’t bother with my birth plan and I was too late for any proper painkillers. I had an easy natural birth on a pill that was slightly stronger than a paracetamol, and then some gas and air, and a tens machine. Now I don’t mean to sound precious, but I’m not English, in my country I’d have a doctor who’d be monitoring my entire journey and would follow my birth preferences, not a series of midwives who keep changing and then get sent home in full active labour. I was personally not impressed but I suppose it’s just the way things work around here. On a positive note, the room was well equipped and the maternity staff super engaged and caring.

I had my baby at frimley park last month and they made a mistake causing me to have emergency surgery a few days later, they were understaffed and so busy it was an awful experience. I’ve heard much better things from Royal Surrey and wish I had gone there. Good luck!

Midwife was great at frimley. But when I went into frimley hospital as was in labour. They Wanted to monitor baby so tried to lay me on a bed for 2 hours in the smallest room. Then didn't check dilation since before leaving. My husband delivered our baby an hour later at home on his own! I wouldn't have it any other way now as all was ok but.....

I'm with royal Surrey an staff hav bn great an it's a clean an welcoming hospital x

I had a great experience at royal Surrey, and contrary to Alice above they were really good and let me go to the birthing suite as my contractions were strong, despite not being very dilated, and after they initially were going to send me home. They responded well to how I presented! So I think it’s so hard to compare as so much depends on how you are and the midwife you see at the time. I would say I’ve moved to near Farnham, but would go back to Royal Surrey again (I’m equidistant now really between RSH and FPH). I’ve heard good things about frimley too but wouldn’t hesitate to go back to royal Surrey based on my whole experience there (from pregnancy to after birth).
