I accidentally gave a little bit honey

I completely blank for a minute or two and let my son try my salmon and rice. Forgetting it has raw honey a little bit. Honey on the salmon is cooked, but I use the extra sauce a little bit on rice. 🤦‍♀️ He absolutely loves salmon and rice, and I tend to share a little of my food with him. He had maybe 4 small bites. I think he'd be fine, but pregnancy brain is giving me anxiety about it.

Honestly honey has never done anything to my 11 month old daughter

Everything should be ok. A few months ago I gave my son honey wheat bread and completely forgot that honey was an ingredient 🤦🏽‍♀️.. so I called the pediatrician and she said the small amount I gave him should be fine but to just watch for any changes in behavior . Everything was fine!! I just overreacted lol

@Rachel it's only raw honey that might be bad from what I've read in the past. He's had honey mustard pretzels before.

@Lashanda even raw honey? He probably didn't get too much but still. I've read a lot of things says raw is really bad before a year old.

The pediatrician said it was any honey.. raw or baked

It’ll most likely be totally fine, watch for any odd behaviour but I think you’re good

If it makes you feel any better the way I introduced peanuts to my son was giving him some of the ice cream I was eating and I forgot there was peanut butter in it 🙃 he was fine and I didn’t give him much just a taste cause he was pestering me for it but I was like well that wasn’t the plan for today but I guess we are watching for peanut allergy

@Rachel never heard that before

@Elizabeth Yea babies are so fun like that some days lol. He'd scream at me if I don't share most times. 😅

I only use raw unfiltered honey. But yes I always use it when I make elderberry syrup for my children and she has been fine.

@Lashanda Okay that's nice to know. Feel a bit better about it.

If anyone tells you they haven't accidentally done this with their child they are lying. We all make mistakes. Just don't do it on purpose. Your baby will be fine honestly the chances are so slim. Just keep trying your best to be intentional !!

My pediatrician said at this point they're close enough to 1 it should be fine. Most kids are safe by 10 months but for the few that wouldn't be they say 12 months.

@Rachel I did the same thing! Honey wheat bread got me🤦‍♀️

Honey didn't affect my little one either. I accidentally did the same thing. I freaked out and totally started beating myself up about it. I was so scared about infant botulism! Luckily it had no effect. There are some serious warning signs to look out for, but I am sure he will be fine.

I’ve been giving mine honey since like 6 months. His fave breakfast is Greek yogurt and honey. I didn’t even know it was an issue until my mom seemed concerned. I think it’s one of those freak things that has happened so everyone is so paranoid even though it’s not very common

@Lizzi same. My baby girl been it since about 5 or 6 months

It's likey fine but it doesn't matter if it was cooked or not - if your little one gets very ill in the next few weeks/months, just be sure to let the doctors know they had honey. The reason we're not supposed to give any honey to babies under 1 is because honey is likely to have botulism spores and babies guts are a good place for those spores to reproduce (the vast majority of botulism cases are in babies under 1, but it's super rare). Nothing magical happens when they turn 1, they are just less likely to get botulism from it as they develop. The reason it doesn't matter if it's raw or cooked is because botulism isn't killed by typical cooking temperatures.
