Cavalier King Charles spaniel. The best family dog IMO.
There a lot, but its awlays depend of how you rase the dog But, pug, golden retriever, border colin, labrador
I love the bully breeds. I had two around my boys and they were and are the best. So gentle and they protected them from things too.
I got a Mexican rescue from @mexidogrescue via IG. 2 year old female, whippit lab mix. Shes had puppies before. Best dog I have ever owned. I specified when I spoke to her that I had a toddler and needed a dog that was bomb proof with my son and man, did I get what I asked for. She's the best dog ever with him. He literally is her best friend. Sounds terrible, lol but he's ridden her, lifted her lips to look at her teeth, pulled her tail and/or legs, picked up her food bowl while she's eating, and she's just sooo good with him and patient... obviously, I try to teach him not to do these things each time he tries to do these things, and he has gotten better in time but toddlers be toddlers sometimes... Alot of these rescue dogs are just so thankful to be in a safe and loving home that they are the best pets. And @mexidogrescue and her coworkers ensure dogs aren't sent out without proper review of behavior and personality traits.
And something to consider, a puppy is an insane amount of work. If you already have young kids, likely working and a household to run, a puppy can seem like a lot of work when you're in the throws of it. You have to teach them manners, proper behavior, train them basic commands, house train them (puppies cant hold all day until close to a year, so needing to go outside alot), feeding and water, regular walks and constant playtime to decrease their energy levels. Sadly I know a lot of people who think they want a puppy and end up rehoming when they realize how much work is involved. A 1 or 2 year old dog has already gone through all this training and teaching and troubles phase, so you are basically only left building a routine, relationship, and establishing leadership with this dog. Which is much easier and faster than all of the above. My new dog took 1-2 months to adjust to her new life.
There are loads of other factors - grooming requirements, activity level, trainability, biddable, etc. There are lots of good family dogs, like labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, poodles, etc. We had a dane who was 9 when our first was born. I will absolutely have another, but will be waiting to bring a puppy into our lives until things are a bit more settled, likely when baby boy is 2ish years old.
