Baby porridge vs ready brek

So my LB is 5months 3 weeks and I want to give him a couple of spoons of porridge made with breast milk to start his weaning journey. The NHS website says to just give them the same food we would eat so I was just going to use ready brek. However my MIL is convinced that he can’t have ready brek and has to have specific baby porridge. I’ve found conflicting information online about whether or not ready brek is ok to give. Has anyone already given their LO ready break or baby porridge? Is baby porridge baby for them?

He can have ready brek if he’s ready to wean. Or normal porridge is fine too to include a bit of texture. BLW encourages baby to eat what we do when prepared correctly and it’s not specific baby food, that’s the point of it. Go for it x

He can have ready brek or you could blend normal oats until they are fine too x

It is better to have ready brek or normal porridge. My Mum gave us some baby porridge and there is 5g of sugar in a recommended portion size! We won't be using it.

Yes, my HV said they should have whole milk and not semi/skimmed. I imagine it's to do with the nutrient value. You could also use some formula to make it with instead.

Definitely use ready brek and your breast milk

Mine digests weetabix better than baby food! Babies shouldn't have cows milk until they're 1 so use formula or breast milk in my opinion x

They can have cows milk with food but not as a drink x

Just jumping in on this thread - the recipe on the ready brek box says to make it in microwave. Is it ok to microwave breast milk to make the ready brek..?

@Faz yes it just loses some of its nutrients I believe
