Anyone get a prenatal massage while pregnant and it was ok and baby was ok?

So I had a membership to massage envy that I canceled right before I got pregnant and I had 60 days to use all my credits because I have 3 left but then I found out I got pregnant. The girl I go to doesn’t do massages in the first trimester so it only left me about 6 days that i would be “second trimester” to use my credits. I figured one week doesn’t make a difference so I’m using one credit today and one credit next week. I will be in the second trimester next week! But now I’m paranoid that I’m getting one in the first. I was just going to tell her I’m in the second because I’m already losing credits and money lol. There are tons of people at the same place that do massages in the first trimester so it’s obviously fine it’s just that the girl I go to does not. Can someone who has gotten one reassure me it’s fine hahahah I’m scared!!!!! Lol

I got massages throughout my whole pregnancy from first to third trimesters! I had prenatal massages as well as regular. If its not someone specificalized in pregnancy you can still get a massage or request someone who is- depending on your comfort level and personal preference. I just layed on my side as my belly was big. They are super relaxing just make sure your laying comfortable! You can tell them which area you wanted worked on and if something doesn't feel good just tell them. Most massage therapists are aware of certain pressure points when a woman is pregnant- at least all the ones I've gone to have been very good. I say go enjoy a massage!

I’ve gotten prenatal massage. I waited until the second trimester and went to someone specialized. I was there weekly in the third trimester closer to the end. The hip and back pain was a lot. I personally wouldn’t risk it. What’s a couple dollars vs life.

I went twice a month in my second and third trimesters.

@Jennifer OK I think it ended up being OK lol! She did realize based on my due date that I was still in the first trimester but she didn’t say anything lol! She is prenatal certified but they can choose whether or not they do first trimester. I was told some do and some don’t. But she knew i was only 12 weeks and didn’t say anything lol!! I kind of assumed that one week make wouldn’t make a difference

Oh good! Glad it all worked out, I know I was closer to the second trimester when I had one as well but I was super sick and couldn't really do much just due to pregnancy nausea and symptoms in first trimester.

Hey there 👋 I'm a registered massage therapist in British Columbia. I'm not sure where you live, but in Canada massage therapists as medical professionals with a lot of education. Massage is safe during all stages of pregnancy, though some choose to avoid it in the very early weeks. This is mostly from old wives tales, but the first priority is the comfort of the patient so if it makes you uneasy getting treatment in the early stages, listen to your body. There are also certain areas most of us avoid during pregnancy, mostly around the ankle. This is because in traditional Chinese medicine and reflexology, there is a trigger point near the ankle that connects to the uterus. While it's my opinion that even massaging these areas is completely harmless, I avoid them purely because I'd rather be safe than sorry. The biggest concern with massage and pregnancy is your comfort as the patient. If you aren't able to lay face down, pillowing and laying in certain positions takes some skill. Cont'd...

The further along you are, you have to be more conscious of positioning. For some women if they lay flat on their backs without pillowing to lean on to the left they can get a bit light-headed or nauseous feeling. **Your body will tell you when something is wrong** so if you feel comfortable during the treatment, relax and enjoy it :)

I have had monthly massages for years and that includes my entire pregnancy so far. It’s been so great. I also do float therapy. As Alexandra said above, it’s completely safe. Some pressure points to avoid. Many therapists opt out of the first trimester because miscarriage risk in general is high and despite massage not being the cause, they don’t want to be blamed for a loss.

Yes I got one from sojo spa club in New Jersey and it was absolutely amazing. They were very careful and had me go from one side to another. They had pillows to protect my belly. It was definitely a luxurious experience. They require you to be in your second trimester in order to get it.
