Fromage frais

Omg I'm panicking. My girl has been loving her fromage frais (started weaning about 4 weeks ago), been just buying morrisons own fromage frais and she will happily polish off an whole (small) pot. Rightly or wrongly assumed that something for kids would have appropriate levels of sugar etc but just looked closer at the pot and apparently one tiny pot is 4 portions?! Also contains 4.9g of sugar per 55g pot!! Feel absolutely awful now I've been giving her so much sugar. Help!!!

I wouldn’t worry it hasn’t hurt her. But for future you can give her full fat Greek yogurt with a little fruit purée? My lo loves Greek yog and eats it plain or with some peanut butter in to

She will be fine. My daughter was having kids yoghurts from when she was weaning at 17 weeks. Shes 4 year old now and totally fine. There is actually more sugar in the ‘healthy’ yoghurts (little yeo’s organic kids contains 6.9grams of sugar per 85gram pot)

Petits Filous brand contains 8.8grams per 2 pots🤷🏼‍♀️

One tiny pot won’t be 4 portions. Don’t worry about it. If she loved in then bonus!!

I've just checked my lidl ones and they are similar sugar levels. Bear in mind some of it will come from the fruit so won't be added sugar. In comparison my low fat mango yoghurt is 12g per 100 (fromage frais was 9). I often buy plain Greek yoghurt and put fresh fruit in instead but I'm not sure how much sugar is in fresh fruit tbh...

@Parris I used to use myfitnesspal when I was on a diet to track stuff like this. Pretty sure it did sugar. Just had to scan the barcode

You can buy no added sugar petit filous and Yeovalley ones which aren’t as bad. Taste more like flavoured natural yogurt. They obviously still have some sugar in and They are more expensive than your supermarket own brand obviously, but they are the ones we buy and my little girl likes them x

Petite filous do sugar free i think

My little boy is borderline addicted to the fromage frais pouches, I’ve had to move them in our fridge because he would raid the fridge for them 😅 When I noticed the sugar I was concerned too but the ones I buy actually have less sugar than the Ella’s kitchen yogurt pouches x

It’s only 4 weeks and not a really high amount of sugar - just more than you’d like to give a small baby. My mum gave my 1 year old a load of ‘healthy’ yoghurts that had 15g of sugar per pot, and no fat either! Livid when I found out but more at the marketing bollocks of companies making you think something is healthy when it’s not. It’s f’ing shocking what companies are allowed to sell aimed at kids. You have to read the ingredients for absolutely everything and don’t let marketing fool you. Also fromage frais is technically a cheese and not a yoghurt, so you don’t have the same benefits as yoghurt i.e. live cultures. Full fat natural live yoghurt is much better - can always add a spoon of fruit purée to wean baby off the sugary taste

You will have sugar amounts because of the fruits! Fruits have a high amount of sugar contain! It’s good sugar for kids but not necessarily good for adults trying to lose weight. Your kid needs good fat/ healthy sugar from fruit in their diet. Please do not just try to do skimmed milk etc. babies/ kids required good nutrition and full fat gives them that. It helps with their brain development and bone density.

There’s a no added sugar version that we bought

I would stick to plain full fat natural / Greek yoghurt. They don’t need all the flavourings at this age, but can always mash some fruit in x

The ‘fruit’ in these things is so processed it’s all free sugars so really no different to a teaspoon of actual sugar. It’s all just marketing so they can sell it as ‘sugar free’ to make people think it’s good for their kids
