How to get married cheap as possible in UK (no wedding?)

Sorry if this sounds random for this group! But basically me & my boyfriend of 13yrs never wanted to get married but for legal reasons it's starting to make more & more sense to! We legally changed our names already by deed poll, so that our newborn has the same name as both of us. Obviously it causes confusion on legal documents though as we're unmarried, but share name. We now just want to make it official without guests, in secret! As we never wanted a wedding. I looked into it & it came to over £1k...but when I Google cheapest way it says £120...how?! What is the bare minimum I NEED to get married legally? Don't need any decorations, food or anything as no guests. Don't need a venue as such other than somewhere to go to sign the paperwork! I'm in Essex in UK if that helps. Thank you for any help!!

Call your local registry office, it’s a standard fee they charge, I think it varies slightly by location

Registry office.

Registry office or Church, whichever. Also look at hotels..sometimes they do a "just is two" package which includes a meal for you two also!

Just a registry office, costs maybe £200 and all done. You just need to serve 30 days notice (longer if someone is foreign though) x

I got married on the cheap - was £80 to get married at the registry office mid week with only 10people in the room. I got my dress £60 from shpock, my hubby already had a suit. Went to an all you can eat with family and friends after with a £35 lovely cake from M&S 🙃

If you get married in a registry office during off peak times/days {not many people get married in the middle of the week} then it'll be a lot cheaper. As someone else has mentioned, you will need witnesses. Clothes wise, you could just get something from the high street & it doesn't have to be a wedding dress. Rings, depending on your budget & where you shop it doesn't need to be expensive🤷🏼‍♀️ One of your witnesses could take photographs🤷🏼‍♀️ Flowers, just get a bouquet from your local florest or, alternatively you could buy some fake flowers from a craft or home ware shop. I don't think that they're that expensive.

We just got married at registry office cost £350 as we had 10 guests, if it’s just you and and the witness shouldn’t be more than £150

Shouldn’t confuse anyone… my son has a hyphened last name with mine and his dads, and my daughter has her dad’s last name and we aren’t married yet… as long as you have a birth certificate stating you are the mom and your boyfriend is the dad should be enough… at most you may need put on a note in brackets mom lol

Registry office costs a couple hundred

Just go to the registra office to get married. Just signing a piece of paper.

We just got married in feb with 2 witnesses, £76. That included giving notice and the marriage. I borrowed my sisters dress, did my own hair etc and cheap as chips 😆 no regrets!

@Leyonie we did the same but my sisters dress wouldn’t have fit me so did buy one but it was around £10 😂 own hair, makeup and nails too. No less married than someone who spent 1000s 🤷🏻‍♀️

@L 💜 I saw this but then when clicking on "book a registrar" which apparently I have to have? The cheapest is £700! I'm confused how I can get married for only a couple hundred when one thing alone costs that much?

Have a look at other registry offices. My one is beautiful inside, with grand staircases and statues… that one cost more to use than the one in the town hall in the next borough x

Gretna green maybe?

Pressing book a registrar means you want them.to come out to you. Go on you your local councils website and look up the registry office for the same details as above

I had to ring to book ours. They do them in the first Monday of every month that’s why it’s cheap. Obviously that’s our council but yours should have the same kind of thing
