Can midwife give the sick note in UK?

The title says it all - I am very stressed at work to the level where I almost have anxiety attacks. Could my midwife give me a sick leave or is it only GP?

The GP can, but just check your maternity policy as if you go on long term sickness for pregnancy related illness they can automatically start your maternity leave xx

You can self cert for the first week then your GP will extend it for you if needed

@Shannon I think they can only start your mat leave early if you’re off sick in the 4 weeks before your due date.

Just ask your GP to put pregnancy related sickness on the sicknote. You don’t have to give further details to your employer. I went through the same thing

Ensure the GP records the sickness as pregnancy related illness on the Statement of Fitness for work (sick note) as this is treated separately from other sick leave and cannot be used to your disadvantage by an employer in the UK e.g. disciplinary for hitting sickness triggers etc.
