Hospital bag snacks!

Hi all just wondering what snacks and drinks you are packing in your hospital bag please? I have heard lucozade mentioned a lot but I have gestational diabetes so a bit conflicted whether I still need to be conscious of the sugar content or if by this point in the pregnancy, it really doesn't matter 🙈😅

From what i’ve heard as i have gd aswell you take your monitor to birthing suite with you! afterwards i’m not sure what happens 😆. I’d definitely still take snacks maybe protein bars and low carb snacks/bars just in case!

I have GD too and was still advised to bring the lucazade sport for labour. I’m packing some energy bars, nuts and a shit load of crisps for my other half. The midwife said it doesn’t matter what you eat after, so I am packing some of my favourite biscuits to dip in a really sugary tea.

They still monitor your bloods right up until you give birth and you have to take all your blood monitoring stuff with you as they will take it from you after birth too. If you have food in hospital before birth as well you are slightly restricted on the menu as well, they refused to let me have ice cream as a dessert because of GD (was in due to being induced). Definitely take snacks and drinks, after birth you can eat and drink what you want and take some more GD conscious stuff for before but tbh I wasn't allowed to eat and drink anything other than water/juice whilst in labour as they prefer women not to in case of needing a C-section (this was the same in my naturally started and induced labour). I'm not the only one that had that either, everyone I know was told not to eat whilst labouring which I think is completely unfair, so just be warned some midwives can be pushy about food

When i was delivering my baby (27 hours) they never let me eat something 🙈

@Shanice i remember how hungry i was omg and they gave me bread with butter after and i was over the moon 🤣

Omg haha thanks girls glad I asked! So not only are we in pain, bur we are hangry too! It's really not ideal is it 😳

Wait they let you starve?! My goodness 😭

@Viktorija it's crazy isn't it!!! And honestly eating anything after all of that was one of the best feelings ever 🤣

I think it’s really mean how they don’t let us eat 😢

Although in my first labour I couldn’t keep any food or drink down anyway until I got an anti sickness injection

@Shanice thats true yes ,but i think if they would let eat at least some snack would be so much easier 🙈
