I'm terrified

So my baby is already 9.5 pounds and they can't induce legally till 39 weeks, I'm only 37. They're pushing for a section and I'm terrified of being awake while they're cutting me open. He's probably gonna be 11 pounds by the time he comes. How do I stop being scared?

He's my second child and I had a 3rd degree tear with my first so they're pretty sure with how big he is he'll cause a 4th degree and it could cause permanent damage that will be with me for the rest of my life.

Ah I sorry you're feeling this way. Maybe speak to a mw about your thoughts. I've not had a section before but I've heard soo many good things about them! And have also heard many people say of they have anymore they would want a section again as its so calm and relaxed you know what day you're going to have baby they allow you to play whatever music you like they put lights ect on and it's all a calm environment. Try and think of the positives you'd rather a controlled pain free section while it's happening because of the pain relief and just deal with the recovery or go natural and more then likely tear To the extent of a 4th degree and have perminant damage. You've got this mumma you've got this 💜

It’s interesting how we are all scared of different things. I’m personally way more scared of a vaginal birth than a c-section. The c-section itself is very controlled and routine for the doctors, and I find being awake and even watching the surgery while being in no pain kind of interesting. I’ve also heard the baby is usually out within the first 5 minutes, and you really will concentrate on him afterwards. I suggest having your support person with you, ask the medical personnel to use an opaque screen so you can’t see anything and breathe. You’ll meet your little one so soon and are honestly safer than during a vaginal delivery (way less changes of surprises and all the docs are right there at the ready). Good luck!

Have you tried doing a hypnobirthing course? There’s loads of them online, I did one when I was pregnant with the naked doula. (There is also some people who do in person ones too). They help you to know how to deal with everything, listen to your body and advocate for yourself. There’s also tonnes of information about birth and what to do in the event of a c-section or assisted birth. I’ve heard soooo many people talking about the courses helping them to stay calm during c-sections and make it a positive experience. There’s also information and advice on how to reduce the risk of tearing. They aren’t too expensive and are a great tool to make birth a positive experience. Doulas are also great if you have the budget as they support you before, during and after birth. I hope you manage to find a way to feel more positive and get the right support. Xx

Oh and also, ask if you can be put to sleep if you’d prefer that. Not sure they would accommodate but worth checking if that’s the part you are most scared of.

They will take good care of you. If you can, I’d opt for the c section. I’ve had 2 and both times multiple doctors said there’s actually less pain involved than a vaginal birth. Plus no tears, hemorrhoids, stitches etc. it’s so perfect going in and being prepared and ready for exactly what will happen and then an hour later you have your baby. You’re not exhausted from labor and birth. My friend had a 10lb 2oz baby she pushed for over 2 hours and they had to use suction.

@Daria , The baby in the picture is my 1st child. She just turned 1 this month. Her brother just kinda popped out of nowhere, and we took precautions and everything!

They said my nephew was 10lb he came out 7lb 12oz please stay calm 💖
