Mastitis

Pretty sure I’ve got mastitis on the way for the first time after nearly 9 months EBF 🥲 does anyone have any tips to try and stop it in its tracks before I get to the point of needing antibiotics? So far it’s just red, warm, swollen and slightly hard, I can’t still feed from the affected side without much pain at the moment so trying to clear the infection that way as much as I can 😫 x

I just had mastitis a couple of weeks ago, I really feel you! I hope it gets better and you won’t need antibiotics hun! Basically this is what my doctor said: - stay hydrated!! so important - no tight bras - ice pack on sore breast - I know it’s painful but you should try to feed from the sore breast as the ducts have inflamed and the milk needs to come out - you can take pain medication too that should help I did all of this but mine was so bad I got chills so I ended up needing a 10 day course of antibiotics unfortunately…

I had mastitis right at the start and my god I feel for you girl. I suddenly woke with it in the night and couldn't stop crying because it was that painful. It felt like my boob was being ripped off me 😓 The first time went after in 48 hours because I kept massaging the boob, using hot and cold compress and feeding baby. I also pumped before I knew it was bad to do this. Then last week, like you, I started having that pain and hardening again. I massaged the boob and ended up expressing 3 times for ages in the bathroom and the pain was gone by the morning. Good luck mama!

Hot showers while hand expressing. Cold compress after and make your baby eat as much as possible from that breast. Offer that breast first.
